hahah oh boy... all the worst songs (student demonstration time, kokomo ...) and kept bullying brian doing his greatest work (told him not to f*** with the formula when he was doing pet sounds, etc)

even after the cancellation of smile which is due to more factors but surely mike love wasnt the greatest supporter - when brian brought some of his best new original songs if they’re sad mike love would shut it down saying it was depressing and no one wanted to hear that, with this one for example:

ever since every mike love contribution are just s***ty songs - that’s not new, but he just always wants to cash in on callbacks and to this day keeps just re-recording remakes of bbs songs he just had that whole energy for decades now, he pushes the band against its best creativity but always in a business way and part of reasons the legacy is so tarnished

and he’s just full of s*** all around:

you ever heard this remix? it uses an alternate take and it baffles me those brian harmonies on the chorus were not kept, imo it makes the song x10 times better and catchier, this is the definitive and ultimate version of this hit if you ask me

there’s this hilarious moment in some 2012 google interview where the guy says mojo magazine did a rank of the greatest beach boys song ever and mike love sittin there prolly thinking either kokomo or something he help write lyrics on like good vibrations you already know and then the guy says “the number one on the list is surfs up” and mike love has this face like:

both of the Earthbound composers did this interview for some french s*** some time i stumbled upon so i translated it myself just now for you guys:

Keiichi Suzuki composer of Earthbound soundtrack when selecting albums that made Earthbound what it is:


(...) The Beach Boys "Smiley Smile" (1967) I thought of mentioning Smile which is a canceled piece of work. But instead of going back to a legendary unfinished album that never saw the light, i will compliment this version commercialized, for what it’s worth, which has elements of Smile in this arrangement.

It’s an album really mysterious that captures all the light and obscurity darkness of America and is completely absent of drums. The percussions technics on this album had an enormous impact on the videogame.



Van Dyke Parks "Song Cycle" (1967) Van Dyke Parks was Brian Wilson’s collaborator on Smile, in vain.

This is his first album, came out after the Smile project, and also considered as a big flop. There is western humor, a misty sound, and a touch of Ray Bradbury.

This style was a key factor when i was writing the music of Earthbound.

 also composer of Earthbound soundtrack when selecting albums that made Earthbound what it is:

(...) Brian Wilson "Brian Wilson" (1988) We talked a lot of The Beach Boys but this is the first solo album by Brian Wilson. I listened a lot to this on CD during my trips to visit Keiichi at his place at Setagay during production phase of Earthbound.

If I showed up too early, i would go for a ride with the cd on repeat. Personally I think of Earthbound when I listen to this album, in particularly the songs:


1) Love and Mercy

3) Melt Away

4) Baby Let Your Hair Grow Long

7) There’s So Many

His songwriting almost seems here normal on first listen, but... I can’t really explain it.

When you really understand and feel a poem, it really moves you deep inside. Hmm... I can’t express myself objectively on this.


There is a new deluxe edition of the album with demo versions of the songs on it, and it’s just... Mm!

That’s extremely cool lmfao it’s kinda unbelievable honestly. It makes so much sense though I love the soundtrack. This makes me want 2 to go back n actually finish a run
