Jeff is a top 3 guitar hero for me butit strictly because of his Yardbirds work
you dove into that?
first time i heard of him was by stumbling upon this live performance on a tv channel while visiting uk, was blown away

yeah i dug into his stuff and yardbirds afterwards i like it
he toured with brian he was supposed to be featured on his album to make some rock n roll songs but among the plans with frank ocean and lana brians camp scrapped it
Everything was better over in the states
grass is always greener across the pond I guess
itâs something that seems pretty recurring across uk at least in that time, paul weller says the same thing when also talking about the bbs growing up (i posted it some pages ago) and it also seems i think to explain beach boys greater never ending popularity in the uk in contrast to the us when they fell off commercial wise after good vibrations

I'm just saying everybody in America thought England was where it was at
Even the 50s dudes got a way better reception over there
ok this was great and actually a genuine top you can tell you did listen to all the stuff heâs talking about and makes his own take out of it
not sure about wild honey not having hits on the same pair as smiley smile - darlinâ is an incredible single and is the song daft punk named themselves after for their first band, title song is great too
100% agree on the friends comment and HOLY S*** the weezer comment
YESSIR TEL EM đŁđŁđŁ rivers DID pick from this material as proven in this spotify playlist he made of what he was listening to in 1993 (while making the blue album) the playlist opens with, indeed, âmeant for youâ:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Kb8TXRFggwTtP53b0oLLO?nd=1
surfs up album - should give more props to the new original carl songs (feel flows and long promised road) instead of continuously hyping the smile material, we know about it and he already mentioned it on the smiley smile and the 20/20 albums, i know smile is great but weâre really overshadowing stellar songs and groundbreaking productions
also today at number three
ig i was wrong @RVI @Elric
and sunflower number two
this man knows
great honorable mentions i was worried he was gonna left so tough holland and all summer long without even mentioning them, very surprising he puts thatâs why god made the radio in there too, i would put LA album instead
his love you comment is fair, and itâs great the album is up there alone, he puts it nicely when he says itâs the last album of the original gang really coming together and enjoying it
tysm for this video
Today top 3
but tbh imagine making a video like this when you haven't even heard Surf's Up and Sunflower before
what was he doing

itâs like anything in life we always want what we donât have

at least he agrees with us on it: sunflower is top two and student demonstration is a nono đ ââïž
another interesting obscure lost 90s power popish track about brian - brings some pet sounds prod in the middle

going through the bbs influence is interesting how the 90s is clearly where somehow they became cool again with the kids - not sure what happened there, but daft punk picking on them, many bands new or popular start writing songs about brian, the many references from weezer, frank black of pixies covering hang on to your ego etc etc i could go on
hell the band saint etienne covered stevie (lost brian song from 1980 which is only bootlegged) even named an album so tough after the bbs one and did a compilation named you need a mess of help to stand alone: there is an impressive resurgence of the bbs legacy through that decade that hits on pet sounds by also beyond that

maybe it had to do with the reissues on cds with the twofers at that time and the good vibrations boxset? @2words
@RVI this is the brian 90s shelved material he was working for the beach boys that ur skeptical about to listen to

im telling you the 90s MURDERED the bbs- their legacy was bouncing back and becoming cool again and by throwing these brian songs away in the basement and canceling the high llamas album but doing stars and stripes instead and all the other corny bullshit ended their relevancy
90s couldâve been their greatest shining comeback and this song is just one example out of what brian had on his bag
at least he agrees with us on it: sunflower is top two and student demonstration is a nono đ ââïž
I never said Sunflower was top 2
maybe 5

well he agrees with me
sunflower > surfs up
even elvis costello taped into his bbs bag in the 90s - AMAZING slept on killer song, makes you wish it was a bbs song (granted anything wouldâve been better than summer in paradise...)

Elvis Costello: This song is a tip of the cap to the Beach Boys. The song was begging for that treatment (he laughs as he acknowledges listening to the Beach Boysâ Holland and Surfâs Up albums during the recording period) I heard all the singles as a kid and some people regard Brian Wilson as a great artist. But people in America to a horrible degree see the Beach Boys as a tired oldies band and canât separate Wilson from the image of a band doing TV specials on the White House lawn.
elvis also in 2000 for vanity fair did a 500 top albums which included this bbs paragraph where he picked 4 bbs albums (
) for the list and listed his favorite songs off of each:
Pet Sounds (1966): âDonât Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder),â âGod Only Knowsâ
Carl and the PassionsâSo Tough (1972):
âCuddle Upâ
Holland (1973): âThe Traderâ
Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of the Beach Boys (boxed set; 1993): âSurfâs Up,â âWonderful.â
Elvis Costello: Pet Sounds is an unbelievable record. It's like classical music. Wonderful compositions, beautiful singing. I think the compositions stand up to any kind of interpretation. I've heard "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" played on the cello and it sounds like a piece music that's been with us for hundreds and hundreds of years. It sounds like it's always been there. And I think maybe in a hundred years' time people will be playing their songs on the piano trying to work out where they came from.
elvis costello covering god only knows:

he also did the liner notes on the cd reissue for either so tough or holland iirc (most of the albums when reissued on cd came with liner notes of rockstars fans of the work giving their story and comment on the work, elton john putting some words onto so tough or holland, and the guitarist of rem praising love you)
@MURKY @Come_to_BR ^ you guys like costello?

This Years Model one of my favourite albums
Havent really listened to him ill have to check him out
Whats his best album?
only know his first handful but the sophomore is 11/10
stunner
his keyboard player Steve Naive and his carnival organ vibe was incredible

This Years Model one of my favourite albums
i grew up loving it as much as the first but always felt the first was the better and i seemed to be in a minority, second is more polished and as as killer tracks but i like the rawness of the first
costello kinda similar career as neil with his side bands: crazy horse / attractions, etc
costello def deserves more share on ktt, ill work on it whenever rock is brought up - he has amazing catalogue all over the place, love this song from his last (? to date) album with the attractions, 1994:

its decent, definitely seems like it would have been much much better than summer in paradise lol
