that what it sounds like to me lol - I don't mean to offend frank ocean fans
Can anyone link me the songs on the blonde album where the beach Boys/blonde influence is recognizable?
like beyond reasonable doubt here's the song(s) where their imprint is all over
Frank said that (before he finished) he was listening to the goats
After the album came out, he didn't comment on those influences again (correct me if I'm wrong)
Seems like a pattern with him is to name legends before his album drops as he said that for channel orange he was influenced by stevie wonder
I think he's genuine about listening to these legends during his creative process but not for the reasons y'all think he is... That's just my imo though
don’t think frank does a lot of interviews

He has so little interview. I’m a huge frank fan and I check for them all. Wish he did more interviews.

did he did any when blonde dropped?
tbh i like the chorus lol
and he did lot of own samples of the bbs on his own song which wasn’t a thing back then like idk who else did that
Bo Diddley was an amazing self-mythologizer and would often reference his older hits in his lyrics and maybe even throw a lick from that song in but yeah this is taking it to a new level. doubt anybody else that og did it.
imo, it's just kinda far fetched that Frank would even suggest rapping on a song with Brian. Frank's a very vocal Beach Boys stan so why when giving the chance to work with Brian he decides "ya know what? I wanna rap all of a sudden" like idk that seems like a sus story to me lol
I've googled "frank ocean beach Boys" several times today and only found articles pertaining to the same comment about frank being listening to the beach Boys and the Beatles whilst making his 'next project (would turn out to be "blonde")
Idk what you mean by being very vocal about being a beach boy stan (I don't follow him on social media so maybe if he posts there about it?)
did he did any when blonde dropped?
On blonded radio his radio show I swear that’s the only one besides the boys don’t cry magazine had some info I do believe. I could be wrong.

This is 2017 all I can really find that’s a about year after blonde since it dropped in 2016 of August
im not mad but it is
cmon
cmon
It's an album for people with broken hearts so revisit it when you have one of those

im not a big frank stan like that so idk really but iirc he mentioned the beach boys in the boys don't cry magazine or something like that, but the influence is also pretty clear on blonde

when people use the reasoning that unless you have experienced a certain thing you can't understand music fully
Are the blonde lyrics a huge factor in your praise?
lotta reviews mentions the influence of the bbs on blonde even the albums wiki page brings it up
Sounds like vague confirmation bias to me....
Anyways what song on "blonde" reminded you of the beach Boys? Your opinion on this matters more to me than long-winded, pandering reviewers
He's been open about the influence of The Beatles, whose "Here, There, and Everywhere" he quotes in the song "White Ferrari," and The Beach Boys, whose Brian Wilson almost enlisted him as a collaborator last year (although Wilson has said that didn't work out because Ocean "wanted to do rap"). Wilson's influence is strong throughout Blonde, ringing through its lyrical melodies and ornate yet cleanly constructed arrangements. There's also something very Brian about the way Ocean always seems to stand alone within his compositions, even though his list of collaborators numbers in the dozens. Frequently dwelling over states of dislocation and loneliness, Ocean's songs touch a nerve similar to those that The Beach Boys' sad auteur captured
don’t think frank does a lot of interviews
he literally only mentioned the beach Boys once AFAIK
Even the Beatles got referenced on his album but no beach Boys sample nor references.....
if frank doesn't do alot of interviews
....
@grimes
how is he "very vocal about being a beach Boys fan" if he's not vocal at all??? 💀

Only other time I've used that reasoning is for people underrating Yeezus that have only ever heard it on headphones by themselves
Doubt Blonde would be as precious to me if I wasn't going through the ringer when it came out

I don't have time to go through his 300+ page magazine
I haven't seen any article mention that yet but I'll look for it so thanks
Which song(s) is the influence apparent in?

Tbh I'm having a hard time thinking of any exact musical moments but in general I feel like he's channeling Brian as much as Smokey, Prince and Eddie Kendricks when he goes falsetto

okay?

idk dawg lmao i don't really pay attention to frank but the influence seems pretty obvious here to me

the most obvious influecnes on blonde to me have always been Beach Boys and Elliott Smith
iirc frank was supposed to be on a Brian Wilson track.
but he wanted to do a rap verse and not to sing, so it didn't happen at the end
bc he mentioned them publicly to the media and was gonna work with them too???
That collab fell through because he allegedly didn't comply to Brian's vision... Then also what young artist would decline a feat from a legend??? You'd have to hate them to say no
He mentionned them once AFAIK
I'm still waiting on the song(s) with the beach Boys influence
Edit: grimes provided three songs
