It would be a dream come true if there was a place I could go to where I can try headphones like these.

Few places here (London) where you can but there aren’t many sadly.

Got the ER4SRs in today, first impressions are that they're underwhelming. Everything in the mix is very clear however there's this narrow sound that I wasn't expecting, I was also expecting deeper bass. The discomfort is noticable, the foam tips are more comfortable though they don't sound as good. I don't think they do custom tip fittings here in Ireland

I'll see how I get use to these but I'll also be looking into chinese gear, I've be recommended the Tin T2 Pros from someone and the BLON BL-03 (+SpinFit CP100-M tips) from someone else, I haven't looked into em yet.

    Beautiful, Human, Relevant recording.

Listening to a needledrop of a promo of John Matousek cut, 1984. I had the '86 CD with the original Matousek mastering but it just felt too flat when I gave it a quick comparison to the MoFi One-Step pressing around 2 years ago. This promo LP is a touch bassier than the CD which is welcome, also sounds more dynamic.

The One-Step pressing has been my go-to until I gave a closer comparison with this '84 LP. The One-Step does pop out more with it's goosed bass and highs but what I've noticed now is how much more fatiguing it is in comparison.

I really prefer quiet music only for listening at night time when tired and laying down in bed

    Big alert!

TD71 done a much needed rerip of his Reel-To-Reel of Rumours and it's truly amazing, It's up on rutracker!

I had come to appreciate the 2011 45rpm over the original and the '85 Target CD just because of that extra detail in the highs and extra low end made it all sound more realistic to me, probably one of the few cases where a smiley face EQ (i'm guessing it was EQd) is a prefered version.

This R2R has the best of both worlds, everything sounds SUPER clear as well as not sounding EQd, lacking balance or lacking that low-mid texture. It's goin in OP

Found this post from Hoffman who mastered the 2011 along with Kevin Gray

"For those few of you who care about such things:

Many of you have asked me for my mastering notes regarding the 45 RPM and 33 1/3 RPM Warner Bros. 2011 pressings on vinyl. Normally this stuff is not made public but if you're interested, no harm done.

As you can see, in our mastering the music was gently massaged to bring out the best while not damaging dynamic range or the natural tones of the instruments and voices. The actual cutting information (lines per inch, etc.) and all SH/KG "special tricks" have been left off as that info is proprietary.

Before mastering I looked over all of Ken Perry's original mastering notes and how they evolved from 1977 to at least the middle 1980s. Hundreds of different cuttings by Ken, mostly from a well worn EQ dub after 2/77. At the end there he was adding 15 db at 10,000 cycles to everything plus additional plate or digital reverberation. I guess his mastering gear killed a lot of transients and top so he compensated by boosting everything on his parametric. Needless to say, we didn't have that problem.

Glancing at the notes below you can see how well their original set up tones worked in keeping everything correctly balanced from channel to channel and from song to song. Just a db or two up or down and that was it, level wise. Same for EQ. The hardest part in something like this is to resist "fixing" stuff in old mixes and not massaging everything up to an even level. But we didn't. Just a little push here or there with EQ and a few tubes in the path brought out the best in the original sound.

"By the way, "DO NOT MASSAGE" in my above mastering notes means "Don't raise the quiet parts and lower the loud parts." In other words: Keep the dynamic range intact. Not many times this has been done over the years! Now it's all LOUD all the time. "Massage annoyingly." "

There's a rip of a Dutch pressing of Michael Jackson's Thriller recently uploaded to rutracker and it's the best i've heard the album sound. Better than pbthal's dutch pressing rip.

I was never a big fan of this album but this presentation makes it a much more pleasurable listen. The soundstage is clear, it has depth, theres no stuffy or sibilant highs. It's great!

Which pressing? I know the SACD sucks, most people favour the vinyl rips.

I'm not an audiophile by any imagination, but I personally like the 2001 Special Edition remasters for MJs albums.

I don't know if this is "hi-fi" but I love the mix on it.

One of the first flac's I got when I first got my Technicas many moons ago. So it holds a special place for me.

I've never heard it said as quintaphonic, only as quadraphonic. I've not heard any on a quadraphonic system but I do listen to a few downmixed to stereo because sometimes the master or mix is better or just different in a nice way.

Yeah I wouldn't say it's hi-fi either but I do love reggae/dub and it's really tasteful mixes This sounds fantastic btw

    I meant quadrophonic.

I always say quintaphonic because I'm a dingus and want to include a sub into the equation.

Its a quadrophonic pressing not quintaphonic my bad. And yah I still like the stereo downmix of it
