This is what I mean lol. Because Covid f***ed things up, it’s obvious that the trades have been told to report worldwide openings or five day opening numbers. And it’s meant to mislead people into thinking “this is the three day opening domestic number”. Since when were worldwide numbers or five day weekend numbers the main numbers that were reported for a film’s opening?
Not a slight towards the film but it’s just kinda funny to see it happen in real time. I knew what was up when Avatar came out and all the reports were about its worldwide numbers

It has nothing to do with Covid. For instance, Fourth of July movies that opened early always counted extra days as opening weekend.
Also thanksgiving movies.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen held the 5-day opening record up until this and that opened on Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Spider-Man 2 opened on Wednesday June 30
It’s usually done to take advantage of a holiday weekend like Easter or July 4

The movie is from a French company and a Japanese company. IDK why Amerikkkan numbers should mean more than worldwide numbers. Money is money dont matter if its a cinema in Alabama or Albania.
