i feel similar about the sopranos ending. on first watch youre like WTF just happened but when you re-watch you see all the subtle filming methods they used to tell you what happened. the end of succession was the same with shiv. it's all there on screen if you look for it

also kendall is good and certainly the best of the three. he was already picked as the heir coming into season 1. in season 2 he was logans top shooter, putting in work like no one else. gojo was his idea.

one of my main issues with the show, i detailed this in an earlier post many months ago, was how laughably incompetent everyone except logan was (and the fact that we never really saw logan do anything genius, we are just supposed to accept that hes a business genius except hes also not always coherent and for years the company has been headed towards a cliff under his leadership?). the fact that in the board vote episode in season 1 kendall didnt win even though he had enough votes was one of the worst moments of the show. a board room full of rich type A personality presumably intelligent executives allowed protocol to be breached and then be scared into submission because the delirious CEO raised his voice? one of those moments where just like in the finale, kendall DID win and then lost anyway not because he f***ed up or imploded but because they just wanted to take the story somewhere else.

so i dont agree with you abou the finale and i think it was well executed and shiv's hesitation was well done by the filmmakers beginning when kendall takes his dad's chair and then with all the times they cut to shiv before it's her time to vote.

in regard to season 1, i hear what you're saying about the terrorist threat f***ing over ken (bc he couldnt fly his helicopter) which is admittedly random but he made the mistake of risking it at that late junction. he did make an error by cutting it too close. also you could say the same thing about Logan's UTI during the shareholder meeting being a random occurrence but that episode was maybe the best episode of the show and i think the show tells us that personal s***/random s*** can play a major role in how this s*** goes down. it's not unsimilar to the lawnmower accident in Mad Men.

as for "a board room full of rich type A personality presumably intelligent executives allowed protocol to be breached and then be scared into submission because the delirious CEO raised his voice is one of the worst moments of the show" i disagree with this sentiment because that's kind of the point that logan and other multi billionaire business owners are above the law and above decorum or rules. they do what they want and the underlings have to put up with them, hence why the underlings (who are smart business people) are all just playing the game of being logan's b****es during the whole show. he is the emperor and he can do what he wants. i think of what's happened recently with sports owners like dan snyder and it strikes a similar tone that they can truly be complete twats and fire people who go against them so the organization becomes as circus.

my take is that the emotional decision shiv made was not to go against kendall. rather the emotional decision was the night before when she sided with kendall. she was emotional because mattson just f***ed her and she did NOT want mattson/tom to win. so her and the siblings had a moment of coming together to anoint ken. this was a decision made emotionally based on sentiment and revenge against mattson.

the day of the vote, in the office, is when the reality set in and she re-thought it from a more intellectual perspective and thus made the right decision by voting against ken and choosing to take the money and exit the business.

she was still not sure when she went into the sidebar room, and ken's reaction obviously sealed the deal for her that he is a s***bag. he maybe had a chance to win her over in that moment if he said something good

Kendall getting it would actually make it a worse show. No way yall think that incompetent, needy, d*** addict, 10 year old boy trapped in a 40 year old man's body would actually do a good job at running a billion dollar corporation

The entire show is about characters making moves to improve their own position and betraying others. In the end, what could be considered the main protagonist got betrayed by his own siblings. Whether you like the ending or not, it makes perfect sense
