people keep bring it up that she saved kendall, but i highly doubt that.

she hasnt.

the reasoning for her decision was never changing and she had never changed (sensing the pattern here?)- she was going to do whatever benefitted her the most.

if conner never tells them to go to the house where she runs into tom, she would have voted for kendall and thats that.

the point being, shiv was always shiv, regardless which way she voted. she wouldnt be considered 'better' or 'worse for whatever she voted, she was always voting for herself

a few thoughts/interpretations

-shiv did not refuse to vote to block the deal because she thought kendall would make a bad ceo. remember that shiv found out that it was tom after she joined ken. shiv has far more manageable leverage over tom that will allow her to exercise some executive control over waystar (which is all she ever really wanted).

that's why shiv said it's because kendall killed somebody. that's the only real leverage she would've had to stop kendall from doing whatever he wanted as ceo and it's far too destructive and therefore useless. shiv carrying tom's child is enough leverage for her to call some shots at waystar thru tom. and then there's all of the other s*** she could leak too.

shiv wasn't doing a noble thing by refusing kendall as ceo, but i have to give credit where it's due bc as soon as she saw kendall show no remorse/fear when she mentioned that kid's death she knew he was going to be impossible to control with that much power.

-i also think that--at least at the moment he died--logan would have wanted tom to take over as ceo. i think a lot of succession was about logan realizing that his children could never be like him because they never had to work for anything. tom actually had to work for something and he was young enough to have no real opinions other than the ones he adopted from logan as to how to run the company. logan also clearly respected tom for his loyalty and willingness to be a sociopath.
