Neon who had rappers like YG and Big Sean on his stream. I genuinely think Neon has more money than them. Which is a scary thought.

Neon went from being the nerdy Indian kid who got banished from the 2k community for being racist to hanging out with all the rappers desperate for promo. Dark times.

  • I wonder if going Kai’s stream to promote your album will actually get people to listen your music vs back in the days of going to late talk shows or SNL.

whenever i see a rapper go on a stream, i immediately think that the record labels are the ones signing them up to appear on said streams as a promotional tool

this thread reminded me of this vid

This only happened because of the crutch a large part of hip-hop has on the capitalist or rich lifestyles it promotes. "You have to look rich, you have to look like a non-chalant hustler, you have to be the biggest boss in the room." Now you have big name rappers looking goofy on streams cause of how popular and rich these streamers are because of the youth.

Related to influencers and rap centered ig pages more so than streamers but i remember prettifun (look up feel like uzi if you don’t know who he is) talking about how labels and artists will pay these pages to spread dirt and start narratives (both positive and negative) about themselves and competing artists. All this s*** is fake like MTV Cribs

s***'s been fake for a long time now. Fat Akademiks straight up said that Lil Baby's label paid him like $30K to get him to stop talking s*** about Lil Baby, while Rob Markman was saying that someone from ovo reached out to him and asked Rob to say positive things about Drake during the beef in return for information and access to him lmao

this is something that isn't a new phenomenon though. going back to old hollywood, just read up on Louella Parsons and see her role in trying to take down Citizen Kane and Ingrid Bergman due to her relationships with powerful people like William Randolph Hearst and Howard Hughes

@op you're right about streaming being a good tool if used right (that plaqueboymax and UK stream comes to mind, that was pretty cool)

i think overall audience engagement does the heavy lifting because streamers by themselves are not tastemakers. they just platform what's hot and then move on...they're too busy with other ventures and s*** to curate something that's authentic

rooted in rap’s capitalism/hustle first mentality and us letting niggas like akademiks have a platform to begin with

But i agree the potential is there for something great to come out of this for rap, i think backonfigg (sp?) has some cool moments/precedent as a platform for rap in this lane assuming they stream live

Your engagement with streaming culture is completely voluntary. KTT and Twitter are the only reasons I even know their names. And that's almost all I know.

    Manage your screentime

you might just be reading what you want here because nowhere in my post did i indicate i watch any streamers

saying half the country voted for trump doesn’t mean i support him too, it just means i can state facts about reality. do you understand what i’m saying?

  • this isn’t like “AI is coming whether you like it or not” streamers have already invaded the youth. it’s not a possibility, it’s just how it is.

  • Sir Swagalot

    lmao

  • my take is that streamers evolved from podcasters so we can actually blame Joe Budden for this

“streamers by themselves are not tastemakers.” Agree wholeheartedly im saying more so that themselves, their audiences and media treat them as such.

But towards your part about the audience I think that’s a big unspoken part of why the bs is allowed to flourish. The kids are alright but at the same time a lot of these lil niggas are stupid asf, when you also factor in that a lot of the audience is non black it makes a lot of sense as to why streaming and its relationship with hiphop is the way it is.

Drake is intimately involved in this discussion, and streamers were a big part of that beef.

When I bother to participate in such a tired topic, I still have more to offer than you do. Dummy

I like your posts because you can be funny, but no you don’t

Isn’t backonfigg a no jumper offshoot? Also you’re one of the best new users on here man appreciate you actually putting thought into your posts and offering good discussion.

  • It’s true but hip hop artist going on streams out of desperation feeds it too. Streamers are an inevitable creation that boomed with the pandemic . For that long can any artist of any genre truly show love ? Cudi has a podcast, t pain and wiz stream . Major artist do streams but those outside of it of course trying to get more viewers and a moment

The true question is can it improve

Rap isn’t as lucrative as it was 10 years ago and streaming is seen as a fresh source of revenue. As much as I agree with you we have to be honest and recognize a lot of of artists are willingly collaborating with them such as with this thread below

The only rappers you listen to or talk about are complicit in this whole ecosystem. Many of us don't have that problem.

If streaming is so ubiquitous, it's time to make a section for it. You won't.

The average streamer is playing a videogame for other people who play videogames. Your addiction to giving the bad ones negative attention is how Trump became a vehicle for aggrievances in the first place.
