Red dead is not near-perfect in every aspect, the combat is extremely basic. It really just shines in story.

Bethesda rpgs shine way more than just story and role playing. The combat is much more engaging because you can create so many different builds and the combat systems are actually dynamic. The exploration is way better because of the huge plot lines hidden everywhere that you can stumble upon, as opposed to most games where the side quests you stumble upon are like a tiny interaction and so you don’t feel as inclined to explore.
