    loss of ownership?

when you subscribe to apple music, hbo max, stars you never own the music and you know that going in.

When you subscribe to cable you dont own the channels you know that .

Nothing has changed in that regard. You don't own your apartment when you pay rent

Not everyone is interested in ownership of content nor have they ever been and thats okay.

Yes and that is dogshit, too lol. I'm so happy you brought up rent. You should own your apartment after X years of ownership.

That's cool that you are OK with the loss of ownership. Shows getting taken off services and no longer being accessible doesn't sit right with me. You said you didn't care to play games that are 10 years old or whatever so I can see why you have that stance but this isn't about personal vibes and preferences. It's an objective fact that Sony, Microsoft, etc. want to decrease our ability to own the s*** we pay for. This isn't some crackpot theory.

I dont care to play current games releasing 10 years from now . Because most of them arent that. Games that released 10 years ago I have a way to get them.

you can put a xbox game from 2001 into your series s right now and it will work . How is that loss of ownership or not consumer friendly?

Brah idk how many times or ways I have to say this but the present is not the only s*** that matters in this discussion lol. Series S is outselling the X. Will the next Xbox console have a disc drive? Will the PS6?

    Series S outselling the X

is in no way shocking its a lower barrier to entry and has streaming. If that is what people want its fine they want that. I can't tell you what the next consoles will have. There are infinitely greater problems in the world than this

It wasn't unrelated man. This conversation arrived here naturally because you brought up Microsoft potentially eliminating subscriptions for online play. I said no for XYZ reasons, we ended up talking about streaming services and online only storefronts which naturally led to us talking about this lol.

Gamepass itself is consumer friendly. That isn't defending them it is by definition. For those who DO NOT WANT OWNERSHIP. If someone wants ownership CURRENTLY THE OPTION IS STILL THERE FOR THEM. If and when THAT OPTION IS TAKEN AWAY. I will call it out. NOT BEFORE . Not "WELL LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING ON NETFLIX AND HBO". When it happens.

I was saying if they did that could shift the "console war" for them. Not that they would or even should. Just making online free to play would be a momentary loss for them but a long term Win

Not wanting ownership is anti-consumer by definition. Anything that pushes that ideal is anti-consumer. I'm not saying you as a consumer have to abide by this for good moral standing. Do whatever the f*** you want and is best for your wallet. I eat meat fully cognizant that cows f*** up our environment. I'm not defending that by talking about how vegetables are too expensive thougj

Anything that is against ownership of media is anti-consumer by definition. Physical media has dropped significantly since Blockbuster's closure. Blockbuster itself at least necessitated a need for the proliferation of physical media, but yes, Blockbuster as an idea of "renting media" was anti-consumer. It didn't lead to loss of media, though, which is what really matters.

Libraries proliferate the creation of physical books. A library that only allowed digital renting would be a hellscape. Can't rent a book cuz you're data capped LMAO

you keep talking about data caps like a library cant be inaccessible due to distance or so many other environmental factors. Like all physical only sellers of anything. Vs someones ability to even with data caps get something online but again go off.

Agree to disagree. shout out game preservationist. Yall the best consumers.

Why? Capitalism has afforded me a great f***ing life. Doesn't mean I don't have my problems with a lot of the s*** it has accelerated. There's more to life than "everything is bad" or "everything is good."

That is also another problem. Thankfully a lot of libraries will ship you books now.
