Yeah they’ve seemingly written this dynamic into such a corner that the movie just became “one of them is in trouble, the other one comes to their rescue” over and over and over again.

I think that’s the film’s biggest flaw. They didn’t have anything interesting to do with the characters. They have no movement within the story. They’re just in the same place with each other for its duration, while things happen around them like background noise.
