getting the basic ”spider-man will return” tagline did kinda peeve me though

It was so corny eye rolling especially after calling him iron boy that they did the same exact thing as Iron Man 3 ending

Yeah that's how I feel about the introduction of Jean Gray in this movie when there's really not an interesting cast of mutants in the 616 world right now. Chameleon sounds like the more logical choice for this movie. Spider-Man has too many good villains to be pulling Jean Gray as a villain.

Yeah, though we’ve pretty much known for a while now that that was Jean, I kind of accepted that fact and plan on seeing how the movie executes.

Hopefully they can get back on the 2-3 year release cycle like previously so we can get the sequel before 2030.

Also Jean Gray isnt a great villain here. She is a bit too evil. If Spider Man doesnt properly catch MJ then MJ dies and Jean killed an innocent civilian to free her sister. She also just spends the entire movie not really telling Spider Man her reason why as if keeping it a secret really does anything for her. Then when they do have a chance to team up to focus on the actual villain she continues to use other to fight him. Which at that point feels more for the plot and for cool moments than actual logic. Hulk makes a quick appearance just to go out of control again and make it seem like its a emotional moment only to be eschewed off stage.

The idea that a hour of this movie was introducing Jean Gray and the X Men and we wont see them again for like 2-3 years is insane. Then we will see Fox X Men later this year . If Spider Man cant cameo in X Men then its kind of baffling. Spider Man movies are still kind of being used as the movie to do too much work for other franchises.

I think they had something with Aunt May in the dead zone but showing her give the same speech 2-3 times was like "am I missing something . " they couldnt get her to say a little more about grief or final talk with peter so they just showed the same speech 3 times replaying in his head. When he was "dead" feels like they could have had him meet Aunt May and not want to leave her but she says "you need to live "

I'm seeing it again tonight (and tomorrow), so not sure I'll put out my full thoughts yet.

Quick notes on things that I didn't like, although not a big deal as I loved this movie:

Yelena is one of my favorite characters in the MCU and her scenes did not hit at all - I was actually annoyed by them. Incorporating her by having Peter show up to the Avengers Tower and being in the "command center" that we saw at the end of the Thunderbolts would have been 1000x more sick and an Avengers-building opportunity ahead of Doomsday.

I didn't want to believe how little Scorpion was in this movie but alas...

Tombstone, you've gotta be kidding me - what a waste

Boomerang, Tarantula were nothing but I'm ok w that bc they are D-list villains anyway

Can't believe Keith David was a nothing-burger, lol

The use of the Hand in this movie took a second for me to wrap my head around.

But thinking that they are disparate remnants of The Hand looking for a leader a decade after the events of The Defenders works. They're in rebuild mode and have a service to offer. I could see this opening a door in Born Again Season 3 for Elektra to take over.

Felt like a convenient reason to use stunt team but by the time it got that far we had already seen the scene in the trailers so was kind of just like "okay now we have seen it in movie too". If we didnt see it in trailers would hit harder. Then if I watched daredevil would hit harder. But Tombstone being cast for one comic panel fan service is absolutely criminal

I remember the delusion of thinking Metzger was Jackal or that Jackal existed in this movie and part of me misses that because in this we really got no full introduction of anything centered on spider man besides the woman police officer. tombstone and other villains quick cameo then Scorpion reused and no development at all from when we have seen him for the past 10 years.

I get sony locked up Kraven, Chaemeleon, Morbius all of which could have kind of helped this movie but damn. Kraven hunting mutants simplicity. This felt like Spider Man Dawn of X Men .

I mean all of the MCU characters were there for comic relief cameo

Keith David wasted, Tombstone wasted, Scorpion not developed still no mask lol just going out there barefaced

the Hulk classroom scene feels like could have used it for something other than a joke about the avengers

    Yelena a sexy sauna joke

Punisher some of the jokes worked some didnt then whether he shot Peter or Jean he doesnt really know the side effects of shooting a mutant in the middle of them doing something like that so it felt kind of goofy

William Metzger essentially the real villain. But Jean spends so much of the movie vague posting and aura farming that she becomes psycho and not likable to some degree even after the reveal.

    Ned part magic thats why

    That 100% retconned lol

    Even Strange forgot him

He still blindly listened to everything William Metzger said . Which was baffling. Because that is one lesson I needed him to take from trusting every man that was introduced to him in the home trilogy. It only clicked for him when MJ said something

Well tradtionally he's always been good with authority.

Waaaay more boy scout than a traditional vigilante

  • Jul 30

I thought I was being harsh but yeah how they introduced Jean through the flashback with her sister felt like they were about to really show some sort of heart felt moment of going through multiple people's minds or show their soul. Show something that truly showed a connection with her sister and learning her powers but it was like a quick demo in a game then instantly obvious dart while getting ice cream alone . Then sister controlled her to hold her back.

Nah trusting Iron Man I give it to you there is a reason why. Trusting Vulture, Green Goblin , Mysterio, William Metzger y'all smoking d*** .

He is a grown man now . I have followed the character for over a quarter century some of it is just goofy writing here for convenience.

  • Jul 30

William Metzger plan is to spark parts in the brain where anyone could jump into someones mind knows he killed her sister doing this s*** and its heavy risk but just does it anyway cause f*** it. No blind folds . No facing her the other direction . No doubling the distance just in case . They like 34 feet away 1 extra foot of her distance. Even though she magically made it to MJ out of the helicopter which was more than her distance unless she can transfer to animals too we dont know

They're 100 percent doing The Death of Jean DeWolff when they adapt the symbiote

Difference between following people and big corporations that are known to be "the good guys"

He's not to really question them, like nobody else does.

It's lke the the avengers are thinking about it

  • Jul 30

The trauma that leads to him mutating is MJ a girl he loved 4 years ago kissing another man . I feel like during the 4 years him at least attempting to make new friends or be in society would help a bit. The whole story focuses on his sadness of having a secret identity but from homecoming we saw him introduce to May and Ned then Far from Home MJ and the world. They make it seem so sad to have a secret identity then joke about it with Yelena and Punisher only to rush him revealing to others yet again.

Also ideally he would ask to get spidey tracker taken down in some way because it also helps his villains smarter than Ned easily know his location and eventually his identity. All because Ned says he is grateful for who saved his life.

In the cartoons and comics he has even questioned those claimed to be good because he is meant to be smart. MCU spider man one of the few iterations I have seen him continously been this naive.

Yeah he's 4/4 in being a dumbasse to the Villian. They need an arc of him distrusting people now

Sarah felt like a Martha moment

of "OMG WHAT A TWIST THERE IS A JUST REASON THIS PERSON IS DOING THIS "

  • hilarious how i actually thought and believed daredevil would be in this in some capacity. felt extremely foolish when them credits rolled lmao

He is a genius and I get him trusting everyone before I do. But after it lead to the death of Aunt May that should kind of change the character some . Same as him not unmasking around Yelena or DODC . DODC he knows such a limited amount about but quickly becomes their lapdog to suppress mutants but not really knowing the why.

Again it would just help if Peter tried a bit more to connect to humanity. Not just punisher, DODC, William Metzger or MJ and Ned but humanity by a bit. Him having no job for 4 years doesn't even really make sense like that. Also would have developed him a bit. It all overall works.

lol feels like have her say something she said to peter but different from the original memory we have seen replayed to Peter. That moment was kind of mixed. I get it though that moment plays on grief.

I dont know if any emotional scene in this movie fully landed for me.
