I'm not a fan of this, I don't even buy discs any more, but I liked the option, just in case there's a game I wanna keep etc.
Fascism and not being able to afford living are existential threats. Literally life and death. Moving away from old media formats is not life and death.
I fully agree with this. But my point, as I feel like anyone would be able to tell, is that all of these avenues of life - from the severe to those of entertainment - are all being affected in the same ways by the same stuff / greed / etc.
I can afford my living situation and I'm not in danger of being rounded up by my government or directly persecuted against. But there's more people out there than you know that are someone struggling to put food on the table who still want to be able to buy a game for their kid who are about to have one more area of their life completely and utterly f***ed.
And one of the main reasons that it keeps happening (political, entertainment, whatever) is when people act like they can't make a difference and make excuses for the s*** going on.
This is video games. Am I upset? A bit

Late-stage capitalism is definitely responsible for A.I. being out of control, causing the price spike for ps5 and ps6 and computers and everything related to memory. Absolutely. That’s due to unchecked corporations and that’s why we need a wave of progressive politics in this country to wash out maga and the do nothing dems. This is not that. This is, people prefer discs. Nobody is forcing 85% of people to buy digital, they prefer it that way. Humanity changed. I genuinely am sorry for collectors, and I hope they keep making cool physical collectors editions just with a code, for those people.

I miss gaming magazines tho

Music, film, and books never became so complex that they don’t fit on vinyl or paperback or whatever, that’s why those formats still exist.
Games however, are, gta6 300gb on disc just isn’t feasible. You’re asking for futuristic disc tech that doesn’t exist.
Even Nintendo is struggling with fitting big games on cart and the speed of cartridges in terms of game loading, the game key card outrage was the first sign of where things were headed. We were always going this direction.
Meanwhile, a futuristic format that doesn’t even require discs is here. It’s just digital download. I understand you want there to be these fancy new discs, but the technology isn’t there.
The vast majority of games are not 300 GB
Y'all are acting like every game is GTA VI size
Digital download is not a futuristic format at all
I like their TVs though...

There already a lot of games 200-300, and its the up and coming best selling games like cod and gta6. it’s gonna get worse on ps6. idk how big ps6 games will be exactly but this move is obviously happening around the launch of ps6 which could be like Nov/dec 2027 right before this goes into effect. The timing isn’t a coincidence.
Xbox would need 6 discs for gta 6 lol, and that’s current gen, next gen is gonna be wild

The more you force something as "the norm" the more people will accept it, often regardless of whether it's in their best interest or not. Whether it's entertainment, AI, politics, whatever. And then you have people like maxxing going to bat for you in online forums lmao. If you slowly start to make one thing inconvenient, less valid, etc., it's not going to be very surprising that people will feel pressured to change their ways.
That doesn't make that change suddenly okay because people are used to it. It's literally the same kind of thing with misinformation, AI, anything you want to apply to late-stage capitalism, whatever. It's not unhinged to see corporations f***ing over people in every avenue of their lives and seeing that a lot of this groundwork was intentionally laid for it to get to this point and comparing it all together. The government you're criticizing in your post was one selected and chosen by the people due to their "new normal" too. "Humanity changed".
I don't even own a current-gen console lmao. I'm just shocked how many people are in here acting like this isn't a big deal and making the same kinds of arguments that I see all over the Internet to protect the most s***ty people and corporations imaginable. And if people are doing that with something as universal and accessible as video games, you know we're f***ed everywhere else.
I like their TVs though...
True but they just sold their entire tv home theater business to TCL few months ago
there goes the quality

Oh i did not know this

y'all are being tricked by sony's statement
it's not "85% of people buy digital games" because that isn't the case
it's actually "85% of games are already being bought digitally"
well yeah obviously, because many many games aren't even being sold physically so these stats are being skewed

You’re right the real numbers are a bit lower. Still 78% which is 4 out every 5 PlayStation users

so TCL is making Sony TVs and HiSense is making Sharp TVs
no wonder theyre ass
I don’t blame people for trying to find the positives but if we’re being honest with ourselves it’s a net negative regardless if you buy physicals or not

Any good brand eventually gets sold and turnt to cheap s*** nowadays
Feels like this would have gone over a lot better with a ps6 tech demo of live gameplay running was shown with this announcement. Sort of “ yes we can’t do physical but this is a tech demo on a PlayStation 6 specs we plan to have this is what you will be experiencing “ of a physint or upcoming game that will launch with ps6 .
PlayStation 6 would only be an easy sell if it was fully backwards compatible with a disc drive for past generations . Even if no disc for future generations . If I could put ps1-5 disc in it and it worked I would buy one

Yeah so you misunderstood just about everything I said. Perhaps it’s my fault for not explaining myself properly. I am not going to bat for Sony, or any corporation. I feel like it’s really weird that I can’t have a take on physical media without it being portrayed as a pro-Sony take. It’s genuinely frightening, it’s like you don’t even see the humanity in me. It’s f***ing gross. I didn’t once actually defend Sony or any corporation, but people keep saying that over and over.
The maga cult is small fraction of America’s 350m population. 80m Trump voters is a completely delusional small fraction of the overall country, living in their own fantasy world. That’s completely different than most people using digital* now.
You pc ?
I mean me as well
Ya PC and switch 2. Got a ps5 but barely use it

You're refusing to acknowledge that a big reason as to why most people do digital now is BECAUSE of these companies pushing them in that direction slowly over the past decade
