This viewpoint seemed very reasonable when I was younger but it just seems shortsighted now.
Nothing is perfect, not even nature itself, to say we are some kind of random error is just human arrogance.
If he were truely to reject his programming he would see that nature is first and foremost a concept created by humans themselves.
Where nature starts and ends only pertains to human perception, the very concept of nature would die with us if we were to off ourselves.
Deserts filled with sand and rare earth metals in the mountains would be considered as parts of nature by almost everyone.
Yet when humans, coming from nature, create technology with these elements it's seen as unnaturel, a seperate category called technology.
But everything points to nature and technology to be one and the same.
Killing yourself is everyones own choice, but trying to paint it as noble just because you are caught up in concepts just seems really ironic to me
I also think true detective is a garbage show so there's that

I’m not sure how to describe it but a lot of philosophical pessimism has more aesthetic value to me than necessarily something we need to implement in our lives
Hell, I do stuff like positive affirmations and manifesting so in a way, I couldn’t be more different from the philosophical pessimist. But it’s an extreme set of ideas that aren’t necessarily ideal but allow one to vent at maybe the most extreme level about the shortcomings of one’s life and then maybe life in general. In a way for me, it’s a letting go of pain through the expression of extreme darkness thereby functioning as a kind of art akin to maybe black metal or noise music.

its like anthills. we see an anthill, we treat it as part of nature. but then we look at our own skyscrapers as completely separate

the first part is kinda valid, i mean idk abt consciousness as a misstep but the general point is basically just what lacan said. no reason to kill urself tho or stop reproducing, thats definitely a goofy leap.

Philosophical pessimism is unpopular for that reason
Honestly the logistics of it seem crazy but I’m not against assisted euthanasia or stuff like that if a person is suffering be it mentally or physically. Collective suicide is difficult cause we can’t make everybody consent to dying. I guess some people would opt out if they could tho and honestly, I kinda think maybe if we had the option to jump ship when we wanted, we’d be trying to make the most of our lives rather than going with the motions

since when is going w the motions not making the most of life
assisted suicide is basically completely unrelated to this imo

It’s not honestly at least most people wouldn’t say it is
Maybe we have different preconceptions but when I think of someone going w the motions, it’s typically someone who has no life outside a job they hate which they slavishly make efforts to perform well at for minimal returns
Making the most of one’s life doesn’t mean one has to be a hit making rapper, they just have to feel like they’re not just a slave to a system that hates them
It’s all subjective tho and I’m not a sociologist

In the grand context of late stage capitalist society, it means you have no real deep meaning in your life other than making money typically in a dead end job
That’s the context I was using it in anyway
We have different interpretations so no need to split hairs over it
