Hearing this stuff dismissed without thought or consideration beyond your own head cannon is so strange and unnerving
Hit me weird as s*** too because I come from a non Western background and am currently in a very bad spot in various ways so between those two things it just makes me think of the global south that's taking on the worst of climate change and how even though I live in a Western country currently due to my down on my luck status I was left vulnerable to some very abnormal weather events in my area these last two years that put me through massive suffering because I didn't have the means to accommodate
What I hate is I'll tell people "that's proven to be complete f***ing bullshit" and start citing s*** from my literal college level course on sustainability
And these c***s will tell me "u do no that college is just a librul propaganda cesspool rite"
So many legitimate reasons to s*** on modern higher education but if this is these people's go to in response to climate change...
bad place for that headline to cut off in the url
I mean....

it fr comes across as a such a privileged and willfully ignorant take to say its not man made. like you said, other areas are faring even worse
aw plants. why end it with a pic of Ye in his greatest and most important era like that??

Reminds me of this from Zapffe quote on consciousness
"A breach in the very unity of life, a biological paradox, an abomination, an absurdity, an exaggeration of disastrous nature. Life had overshot its target, blowing itself apart. A species had been armed too heavily-by spirit made almighty without, but equally a menace to its own well-being. Its weapon was like a sword without hilt or plate, a two-edged blade cleaving everything; but he who is to wield it must grasp the blade and turn one edge toward himself.
Despite his new eyes, man was still rooted in matter, his soul spun into it and subordinated to its blind laws. And yet he could see matter as a stranger, compare himself to all phenomena, see through and locate his vital processes. He comes to nature as an unbidden guest, in vain extending his arms to beg conciliation with his maker: Nature answers no more; it performed a miracle with man, but later did not know him. He has lost his right of residence in the universe, has eaten from the Tree of Knowledge and been expelled from Paradise. He is mighty in the near world, but curses his might as purchased with his harmony of soul, his innocence, his inner peace in life's embrace.

I mean its all a matter of perspective
If we reached a technological level where we could end all suffering, disease, hunger etc. and do basically whatever we wanted everyone would say self-awareness >> bumbling around eating berries or whatever
but because things are looking dicey right now people will say its a horrible thing. personally until we reach a turning point one way or another I think its impossible to say whether the human experiment was/is worth it

i mean we're nearly at that technological level right now if you ask me. we create enough food to feed another few billion people but it's wasted. medical science is at its absolute peak but it's not adequately shared with all peoples. it's evident that there's no reason we need everyone to labor at the degree we currently are, work weeks could be nearly halved and productivity would only go up, people would have more time to spend with their family, adequately rest, pursue their hobbies, etc.
we saw how radically things that were supposedly "fixed" can be changed in almost an instant during covid, but it seems like everyone just desperately wanted to go back to the old way anyway. idk man
u not gonna find a lot of hope regarding the human condition from me ill just say that. the people with all the power know just how dangerous it is to continue on our current path and what are they doing? building doomsday bunkers n s***

Agreed but that would only be the case if our society was organized in the most ideal way possible given our current technological level
Whereas if we invented fusion energy or some s*** it wouldn't matter if the average person were to only receive scraps relatively speaking, because we would have such a ridiculous excess of energy. Kind of a contrived example but thats the level I was thinking of
People are flawed but in the grand scheme of things, our time as denizens of this late capitalistic mess is only a fraction of our time on Earth. I don't know if I can really make a fair judgement about human beings and what we're capable of until I see how this all plays out

yeah
we'll see if we can pull a rabbit out the hat at the very end. with stuff like LK-99 happening idk, seems like we might be trending in the right direction in some small ways but idk, we gonna need a tremendous breakthrough with the swiftness otherwise I think s*** might just start coming down. we gonna live or die by our global supply chains at this point

I think automation might force us to change society a ton within the coming decades
Either that or it will destroy humanity as we know it and the whole planet will be ai destroying the planet by overproduction

Today the 60°S-60°N global average sea surface temperature broke through the 6 sigma barrier for the first time, reaching 6.08 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 mean.
