Totalitarian, authoritarian and democratic is just a spectrum used to define the relationship between a govt and its citizens. No country is or ever will be "totalitarian"
So what was nazi Germany and communist Russia if they weren’t totalitarian? Lol
i'm not here to defend totalitarianism and tbh i don't think anyone else is either
But how do you install communism without a totalitarian regime, I don’t think you can

Maybe authoritarian, but that’s just splitting hairs
So when I think about communism I think a lot about the idea of sacrifice. I don’t think it’s possible to imagine reaching a final communist society without sacrifice along the way. I wanna ask the socialists ITT if yall are willing to give up your easy lives to become laborers to ensure the progression of the movement? Obviously the majority of laborers in the world today don’t like the idea of full blown communism but feel like socialistic policies are necessary for fair treatment and wages. Are yall willing to basically give up your lives of trying to become artists, writers, etc... I just have a hard time seeing the creative artistic industries booming during a full blown revolution. And would independent artistry even be possible in a communist society?
The reason I bring this up is because, many many many people want to become artists but end up giving up their dreams because isn’t economically sustainable. Isn’t easy to assume that if there was an entire societal precedent that you can rely on society your whole life to live under a roof and feed yourself, what is keeping all these necessary laborers of the workforce from leaving that workforce? I understand that the labor would be met with a lot higher of a wage which would be the trade off, but still, what about those who truly can’t see themselves doing anything else except being in a creative industry?
Also I know this doesn’t apply to all socialists ITT, KTT, the world, etc... but I got the idea from watching Twitch streamer Hasan Piker who is very anti-capitalist and wondered if he would be willing to give up Twitch streaming to ensure a socialist workforce takeover
If anything, artists would be more economically secure. In capitalism only the elite of artists can even make a living. Anybody in the creative scene knows how hard it is to quit your day job. If a state were to fund artists openly and freely, people could pursue cultural and creative pursuits without having to worry about starving. The cultural level in Russia for example was much higher during the Soviet Union than in modern Russia. Now imagine what art could have looked like in the free society Lenin envisioned if even the art in the less free Soviet era was so brazy. Artists wouldn't have to worry about selling enough anymore, only creating. A lot of art was public, like the metro stations of Moscow which look like small palaces.
Independent art right now means having a sponsor for most fine artists and having to sell enough for most musical artists. No one is really independent except for the elite artists. Imagine how many people make music and how many Jay-Zs there are.

there's a difference between state sponsored architecture/design and art
if artists are required to operate within the confines of what the state deems appropriate, sorry, but thats not art

Architecture is art lmao
"If musicians are required to operate within the confine of what their record label deems appropriate, sorry, but thats not art" is what this guy is saying

you dont need a record label
you think making art is about making money?
explain to me what you think art actually is
they already do in the US.
sure, ASWELL as allowing independant artists to make whatever they like and express whatever they like however they want
socialism/communism whatever you want to call it has no place for freedom of artistic expression
you dont need a record label

explain to me what you think art actually is
that's literally why art would flourish under socialism

You come ITT with bad faith arguments and broad generalizations, but now put the burden of proof on me? You were the guy declaring what was art and what not just a minute ago. Stop this foolishness or leave the thread.

i'm arguing with 3 of you here
and not one of you can dispute the fact that socialist/communist systems all suppress artistic expression
it's very simple, but you cant prove me wrong because it's the truth, and that obviously upsets you
says who
because socialism/communism can't maintain control if people are allowed to spread anti-marxist ideas through art

It's such an asinine statement that refuting it isn't even worth the energy. Anybody who is not mentally challenged will recognize just how broad of a generalization your statement is.

completely missing the point
