So when I think about communism I think a lot about the idea of sacrifice. I don’t think it’s possible to imagine reaching a final communist society without sacrifice along the way. I wanna ask the socialists ITT if yall are willing to give up your easy lives to become laborers to ensure the progression of the movement? Obviously the majority of laborers in the world today don’t like the idea of full blown communism but feel like socialistic policies are necessary for fair treatment and wages. Are yall willing to basically give up your lives of trying to become artists, writers, etc... I just have a hard time seeing the creative artistic industries booming during a full blown revolution. And would independent artistry even be possible in a communist society?

The reason I bring this up is because, many many many people want to become artists but end up giving up their dreams because isn’t economically sustainable. Isn’t easy to assume that if there was an entire societal precedent that you can rely on society your whole life to live under a roof and feed yourself, what is keeping all these necessary laborers of the workforce from leaving that workforce? I understand that the labor would be met with a lot higher of a wage which would be the trade off, but still, what about those who truly can’t see themselves doing anything else except being in a creative industry?

Also I know this doesn’t apply to all socialists ITT, KTT, the world, etc... but I got the idea from watching Twitch streamer Hasan Piker who is very anti-capitalist and wondered if he would be willing to give up Twitch streaming to ensure a socialist workforce takeover

I’m ignorant to actual statistics on this, but I’m gonna assume that the majority of the world’s workforce population (even if we wanna purely blame it on Western capitalist propaganda) is not in favor of an eventual global communist society nor would they wanna partake in it. From the little I’ve learned it seems like spreading communism globally was a big conflict among the original Bolsheviks and obviously in order to spread the ideology peacefully the overwhelming majority of the global workforce would have to be convinced of this system. Maybe I’m wrong but it seems like a lot of prominent socialist figures don’t have a background of being very laborious, which entirely makes sense because in order to understand these theories you most likely had a decent upbringing which didn’t require mass amounts of labor. But that’s the thing, labor is correlated to education and access to education. Basically how are the socialists supposed to convince hundreds of millions maybe billions of poor working people who aren’t even willing to listen to a word that sympathizes Marxism?

no one knows. some socialists would tell you that you need a sort of vanguard party actively spreading class consciousness or whatever, others would say the working class will eventually engage in revolution. but it will simply be a result of the material conditions of the working class. but historically there has been tons of working class people especially in the developing world who were drawn to socialism

Yea I know people enjoy socialism or like I mentioned before socialistic practices in the workplace. But ok word that pretty much answers my question of what the vision of accomplishing it basically is. What do you think is the best way to go about it? Or do you think it will happen naturally?

not even talking about socialist practices in the workplace. actual revolutions that have taken place have often done so in the third world and had the support of the working class/peasantry.

will it happen naturally as in we just have to wait and eventually it will happen? no. do i believe it will eventually happen, yes.

Also idk much about it but I lived in Colombia until I was 8 and it wasn’t until 10 years later that a communist militia seized fire against the government and a truce was called. So yeah I’m definitely aware of South American socialist uprisings and things of that nature. I’m trynna learn about the origins of communism before I delve into the modern day stuff though. Also grew up with Chavez right next door while Bush Jr was in office so I was never told anything positive about what they were doing over there lmao.

I guess the final question is, would you personally partake to said revolution, and if so how do you envision yourself contributing?

how does sponsoring art/culture work under socialism?

there would inevitably elements of art and culture that would challenge the ideas of socialism, so would those facets of art/culture be allowed to exist? or would they be supressed?

why would they be suppressed? does capitalism suppress art that challenges the ideas of capitalism?

    Frog

why would they be suppressed? does capitalism suppress art that challenges the ideas of capitalism?

because it could be perceived as fostering anti socialist thinking, and hence become a threat to a socialist system

capitalist western countries allow any art to exist. individuals are allowed to criticise or praise art as they see fit tho

Totalitarian, authoritarian and democratic is just a spectrum used to define the relationship between a govt and its citizens. No country is or ever will be "totalitarian"
