Outside of being the ML scapegoat for the USSR's "revisionism", he's really unremarkable as a figure imo. I guess he represented the leadership at that point, buncha cynical climbers vaguely wedded to the idea of socialism.

He was a terrible leader and I wouldn't be surprised if he never actually read Marx like Brezhnev, but the way people scapegoat him isn't constructive in trying to understand how the system allowed somebody like him to come to power in the first place.

I think he was an alright leader for the most part and the hate of him is super overstated
