    ?

If all the Bolsheviks were like Nestor Lakoba then you would be absolutely right. He put off collectivization and the death lists for as long as he could for his people, and they benefitted.

They united a continent of colonies, industrialized it, fed its people, housed them and protected them for almost 50 years. Also protected them from being exterminated.

The most prosperous eastern europe has ever been in world history.

This is just the most plain basic history of the soviet union

What a piece of s*** you are. You come into this thread, completely uneducated about anything, just spewing whatever lukewarm pop-propaganda you consumed. And then even insult people when they don't share the same delusions you hold.

You don't let anything challenge your world view. You don't question whether the all powerful world empire lied to you about some stuff about the socialist peasants union that the soviet union was. When you Google literally anything about soviet union or communism every search result describes them as comically evil and stupid.

You don't find that odd? Nothing about the commitment of the all powerful rich people of the world to stop communism strikes you as odd?

I'm not going to engage with you any further and hope for you to evolve as a person and become more curious.

first of all ive been spending years learning about this s***. I get more of my information from watching mountains of soviet/communist films from the 20s and 30s than google. if you read between the lines what you see is pretty horrifying.

second ive already told several people in here they gave me interesting new information today

third I got insulted way before I showed a hair of disrespect to anybody in here

four what makes you think I dont question the American hedghemony as well? my grandfather was a union labour organizer (Canada) during the depression and was at war with the capitalists

if you dont see how weak your "I recite literal history" claim was then I dont give a s*** if you dont want to engage with me cause you aren't looking very close.

You don't receive anything for your work

had to eat but im back. Ill address your original message where it said 'you dont get paid' because I am currently reading this book about Magnitogorsk heavy industry in the 1930s and it mentions salaries there multiple times. cant give you any figures bc there are no corresponding tables but theres another book I found that has some sort of figures and it describes wages of workers for the year 1935

this edit and not receiving 'anything' for your work is too vague though because workers of said Magnitogorsk not only obtained initial housing, which then became full-fledged apartments, but also something as basic as documentation and passports, mostly to make sure people don't travel across the country collecting benefits associated with new industries, and of course rations and clothing as well. so yeah dont know about that slave labor far as im concerned

interesting how many of these people volunteered and how many were shipped from a totally different region against their will? did they political prisoners and their families get paid for the work as well?

    This sir is called whataboutism

You can criticize one thing without deflecting to another

Whataboutism isn’t the fallacy you think it is

If we want to illustrate the USSR as some exceptional failure then we must find exceptional evidence

I don't think it's a fallacy, I just think it's deflecting the point I was just discussing. I'm aware at the same time the Holodmor was happening over there, America was for instance dumping trucks full of produce into the ocean instead of feeding it to people to keep the prices up. Had (still have) slave labour in prisons etc.

Still doesn't mean you can't criticize the USSR when someone says how special they were.

We can criticize the USSR all we want but only the communist projects of the 20th Century (especially the USSR, PRC, Cuba, Burkina Faso, Vietnam) have materially improved the living conditions of their citizens to the extent that they have and that is the fundamental (ideological) aim of most democratic political projects, liberal or not

I disagree with the idea that there was some entirely arbitrary agenda to keep such conditions in place
