    phpBB in 2023 is crazy

Lol this is a continous chat thread anyway, not like we have a communism section and we might not be enough to populate an entire section even if it is private. Imma think of something with big tobacco and we can make a back-up discord while keeping the thread for now

A problem with a new forum is that it has higher barrier of entry, as opposed to Discord. We should still be open to new users joining us and put the discord invitation in the OP or some s***

it sounds funny as a cynical quip but theres some truth to it and its not really a misogynistic take. a lotta libs dont want to acknowledge this because it defies their weird contradictory world view of stuff like identities, where they want to act like everyone's different but simultaneously oppression is some arbitrary show of force because everyone and everything is ultimately the same/identical just w a mask on
people are socialized in certain manners according to norms and ideas that exist in culture. the place of women relative to that from both an economic and social stance is obviously different to men and gender relations are ofc largely dialectical. but historically its simply true that the role of women relative to men - in all of its negativities - lead to their treatment relative to industrialization and modernization growing in a proportional capacity. the birth of modern advertising and propaganda in the west for example was literally borne from targeting women. this was ofc not womens' fault, its because of how women were viewed by men, but like people arent only internally socialized, theyre also socialized by how theyre viewed so ofc this made a different in interactions. like does anyone retroactively believe "flappers" in the US was just some organic trend women decided to just randomly do?

i think also if you refer to a diamat perspective the need for women to enter the workforce diminished s***based division of labor (obviously the issue being that now women do both domestic and productive labor), producing these social relations but still keeping intact the economic basis for oppression albeit under different circumstances as things like the wage gap begin to narrow. i just read thru the origin of the family etc. a couple days ago and engels is literally talking about this and i think stuff like what you are talking about is like a clearly visible consequence of something that was contemporary 200 years ago.

Talked with a Vietnamese dude at a bar that his parent's own Thursday night and he was interested in me a bit since my gf was born there.

Just asking my experience with her family culture, and then he asked if I knew what the flag of Vietnam was

Asked specifically if her family flew the star flag or the 3 red stripes lol. I assumed his past family fled from southern Vietnam and settled in America.

Also makes sense that during Jan 6th that same flag was flown during the protests lol

It's really interesting seeing our generation being a bit further from that era of war and seeing the influence it has on the people that immigrate to the US.

vietnamese expats fly the southern flag like they're texans s*** is hilarious

    Sir Real

You’re a really dumb and mentally ill person. At least the voices in Frankitos head give him some degree of historical literacy even if they lead him to very bizarre places. You on the other hand are clearly just a “Shahs of Sunset” type spoiled Persian expat brat whose idiotic parents and imaginary friends have left you completely dog brained.

honestly that dude is way way more annoying and ahistorical than frankito and im glad i blocked him.

    1. islamophobia
    2. ableism

just a reminder, since a lot of people in this thread think those rules don’t apply to them

thinking about this more and i think that it's a example of capitalism's inability to ever address patriarchal oppression and that as much reformism diminishes the economic basis for social relations of oppression its an insoluble contradiction that can be tended to but never fixed under later stage forms of liberalism. like this weird intersection on how patriarchal oppression will need to be addressed in socialist construction and how the economic basis for women's oppression is disappearing and you have both men and women suffering under the idea "men want a homemaker but can't afford a home"

social atomization w youth is probably the most pressing social issue of our time. its a shame that this discussion has been completely decimated by a mixture of grifters (andrew tate types), rètards (jordan peterson types), hyper-online communities, social opportunists, and people who just refuse to take part in the conversation.
the way the discussion has been contextually framed to seem like "men just complaining they can't get laid" or "why do you care when x is being LITERALLY GENOCIDED" has basically ensured there will never be a good faith discussion of this except by people whoa re already keen to pre-agree with each other. like people can say whatever they want about how this is just some lowkey issue affecting "loser losers" or "toxic masculinity" or something but this s*** is universal and has a higher chance of leading to some violent social tipping point than probably any current direct political trend in the west otherwise

I absolutely agree, and yet we all accept it

One thing that stuck out to me when I first went to university, was that no one talked to each other in a broader way

Seemed like everyone already had their pre-determined social circle if so

I didn’t talk to any “housemates” and they didn’t even talk to each other

i'd say the biggest diff besides the violent/etc social aspects of it is that in japan & sk, gender wars basically inspire actual politics. stuff like the equivalent of losers or the asian versions of valerie solanas are basically actual political demographics parties want to reach

    bro thats f***in insane

sitting in lecture is crazy, pre much no one interacts with each other

sometimes the prof is like "discuss with the people next to you" and everyone is so withdrawn from conversing and seems mad introverted

i wonder how much COVID affected this, the vibes on campus with tens of thousands of people is ass

i don't know if people accept it necessarily as much as it being such a multifaceted issue that regardless of how it affects them, it's so deep-rooted that it's not possible to really just head-on resolve on a day to day basis.
Like by comparison i don't know if i'd say everyone "accepts" capitalism per-se; people live under it and deal with its consequences but its not like its necessarily "accepted" as much as they are "subjugated by it".
I think the rise of self-help grifters across the web as well the rise of online-derivative identities solely based in people recognizing and wanting to reject social atomization but not grasping how monolithic it is

Meanwhile NBA thread is untouched...this is 1984

“untouched” have you ever been in there? most of them have been permabanned upwards of 5 times each, they just keep coming back on alts

the thread is now basically its own private sxn, not visible to the public, and it has its own mod
