sounds like fun
yeah i have middle eastern heritage but i generally don't talk about racial specifics because A) im not an ethnocentrist or ethnonationalist and B) people tend to have skewed observations on peoples' opinions based on a speakers' race, so i generally just dont talk about it to not complicate things unless someone throws a wild accusation my way like calling me a white supremacist or something.
im not actually a baathist specifically, and havent specifically claimed to be one really outside of jokes. its a bit of a meme if anything because on most political alignment charts its what i get grouped into. i have a lot of knowledge of baathism and general arab socialism because it's a field i read a lot about (i can read some arabic so i can read non-english works which most westerners wouldn't be able) when i was interested in nationalist-tendency adaptations of marxism when i was younger and more generally nationalism as a combatant to imperialism; i'd be lying if i said i didn't pick up on certain baathist ideas during that time, but it's not like i subscribe to baathism as a wholesale ideology. there's a lot i respect about it and its theorists but more generally its a temporal ideology in practice to a specific time period, and its arab socialist contemporary ideologies (i.e. Nasserism) were technically more successful than baathism ever was.
the origin of the meme w/ people calling me a baathist has a lot to do w my early days on KTT, because i never really talked to western leftists before, so i really had no idea about specific social terminology in leftist groups, and a lot of people assumed i was a centrist or right winger because I didn't understand certain correlations which seemed obvious to people who had been in leftist circles for years, or more general lingo, more or less since all my experience with leftism had been either pure theory or like, actual foreign non-western leftists (who tend to have very little overlap with western leftists in terms of theory & colloquialisms). It lead to a lot of arguments/debates and people kept asking me what my ideology was, and as a joke i would respond w/ political alignment charts which usually would place me around Baathism. I also knew an extensive amount of arab socialist history and was pretty active in discussions or using it as an example of certain ideas in practice I subscribed to abstractly, so the label of Baathist kind of stuck on my end.
while i've always kind of been a theorycel with reading s*** obsessively, practically when i was a lot younger (like way before i was ever involved in posting on KTT or anything), i was associated with a lot of rw groups but i couldn't really get over the fact that at their core, western rw groups were pathetic if not straight up rëtardëd in comparison to foreign rw groups who i could sympathize with more relatively. while i wouldn't say specifically it's like i just moved right->left or something, it's more like I realized that gray area was validating of a lot of concepts in left theory which i might have been aware about but wasn't necessarily fully subscribed to. i don't necessarily consider myself anything specific ideologically regardless of how much marxist theory i may agree with or otherwise. it's not necessarily because of trying to purposefully find holes in ideologies to poke at or whatever (even if its fun to do try and do so), its more just because of like the lack of correlation between specific theory and political movements, i'd much rather make those decisions more asynchronously based on the reality of things as they emerge (or become viable to emerge) rather than like likening myself to something more historical
Krishna lore just dropped

Sorry, hope that didn’t come off as accusatory or anything, not my intention at all
Love hearing about people ideological backgrounds and trajectories like this, thanks for taking the time to write all that up

so zhou enlai had his daughter tortured to death during the cultural revolution and deng had his son pushed out of a window, turning him into a paraplegic
what other crazy s*** happened to prominent leaders families during the CR
also from what ive read was Jiang Qing just an overall really terrible person?
ok i know this is wikipedia but this is f***ing wicked
Guy deserved more than a knife in his butt IMO
Blame the Europeans for getting him smoked, America just went along with it and let them use hardware
Gaddafi was collaborating in counter-terror efforts with USA for years and did torture sessions with them
Anyway it is funny seeing leftists hail him as some heroic anti-imperialist guy when he suppressed the left in his own nation and wrote a really s***ty “theory” book
Ghadafi had it coming because he cucked out to the West, but his death was still a net negative for Libya. Also there would have been no No-Fly-Zone without the USA, let's keep it real.

Jiang Qing was a real b**** and really had no business anywhere near power. She got it merely bc she was Mao's wife and Mao didn't wanna argue with her. Mao completely lost control of his country for a minute, I mean mans couldn't even control his wife.
Some of the Gang of Four s*** was made up though to discredit her, but she did enough retörded things for real to warrant zero respect

this isn’t even true u can see the dialogues between Red Guard leaders and Mao + cultural revolution committee group and Mao multiple times tells them to shut the f*** up and let the red guards speak
though Zhou Enlai despite his mistakes was treated terribly by the left wing of the CPC during the cultural revolution

also ur probably right about the Jiang Qing incident with Sun Weishi i cant find any real evidence. but i think she was killed and allegedly cremated before an autopsy could be done
Deng: "The mainland will maintain the socialist system and not turn off onto the wrong road, the road to capitalism. One of the features distinguishing socialism from capitalism is that socialism means common prosperity, not polarization of income. The wealth created belongs first to the state and second to the people; it is therefore impossible for a new bourgeoisie to emerge. The amount that goes to the state will be spent for the benefit of the people, a small portion being used to strengthen national defence and the rest to develop the economy, education and science and to raise the people’s living standards and cultural level."

man I started Can’t Get You Out of My Head by Adam Curtis the other night and he randomly started going into this 20 minute, highly disrespectful rant about Jiang Qing for no apparent reason. I know he can be like that sometimes but it was so stupid I just turned the s*** off
