i need to get my hand on that JMP book demarcations to understand marxism relation to philosophy better i got it on my phone but it ain’t the same as reading it on paper

i was slipping into western marxism (Lukacs) and Althusser just pulled me right out of it

I’m actually halfway through that same essay right now haha. Going through all of For Marx atm alongside Rethinking Mao by Nick Knight

Planning on reading some Lukacs to kinda get the other side of things soon, will be interesting to compare the two. I’m largely sympathetic towards Althussers treatment of the young Marx, Altho I don’t think I’m as overly dismissive of it as him, there is still value there imo. That being said he is 100% correct that the young Marx texts are weaponized by rightists to promote revisionism

I’m also not sure that I agree that there’s no value in Hegel but that being said I wouldn’t like ever say anyone needs to read Hegel nor would I recommend reading him unless you’re a firmly established, principled Marxist
