im saying that they can help aid liberal/electoral democracy by sponsoring alternative media and news sources to counter Chile's media hegemony where like two groups control 90% of media and use it to spread propaganda regarding the newly proposed constitution for example, so pre much just a diversification and democratization of media
i did wanna talk about how canadian imperialism vis a vis their ~50 mining companies in Chile contributes to inequality and undermines democracy but i dont think i have enough room

also i love this resource you can filter by country and see what program canadas done in a specific country/region. the programs also have policy markers which is really funny, theres stuff like gender equality, Indigenous issues, climate change mitigation, and environmental sustainability being targeted and then you look at the program description and its about ergonomics or like planting more trees
This project aims to implement a sustainable training program in ergonomics to improve male and female workers' health and increase the safety of Chilean women's working conditions. This project includes the training of two students in a professional Master's program in ergonomics at UQAM, allowing them to perform ergonomic interventions and teach ergonomics in Chile. As part of this project, 14 inspectors from the Ministries of Health and Labour and 14 union and community representatives are trained in ergonomics and gender. Activities also include an international seminar which brings together experts to share knowledge and good practices for improving workplace health interventions in Chile, while making them more gender-sensitive.
wtf are yall talking about
bookmarked, that tool is absolutely amazing lmfao
there is no f***ing way they spent almost $20 BILLION on promoting "LGBTQ2I inclusion" in africa
the spending says only $10.3 million went to funds for actual wellbeing of protected populations. where did the rest of the money go

This project seeks to empower some of Senegal’s most vulnerable and marginalized women by increasing their active participation in the economy and in their community’s development. The project adopts the Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE) approach, which recognizes the knowledge and skills that women have acquired throughout their life and in their everyday work, to make it easier for them to access training programs tailored to their needs. Project activities include: (1) developing and delivering technical and vocational training programs in growing sectors, based on the VAE approach and tailored to the needs of some of the most vulnerable and marginalized women; (2) supporting the selected women as they develop their businesses, market their products and join the workforce; (3) training the instructors, directors and officers of ministries involved in gender equality so they can provide more effective support to the selected women; (4) conducting outreach, advocacy and promotion activities related to the role of women in the economic and social development of communities; and (5) supporting collaboration and networking with economic associations to promote women’s participation. The project expects to benefit 1,000 vulnerable women trained in a trade and supported as agents of change in their community. Also, 500 people working in the structures of partner ministries will receive training in gender equality and VAE methodology. In addition, 200,000 people will be engaged and educated on the importance of the economic, social and civic inclusion of some of the most vulnerable women.
-
Expected Results: The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased inclusion of women as social and economic development actors; and (2) increased influence of women as active citizens in their communities.

i misread it the first time it's $18.3 million not 18.3 billion which makes it marginally better
i found it when looking at markers in sudan tho
the financials say only $200k was disbursed despite the project activities saying a $10.3M fund establishment
looking at the websites of NGOs and their "our impact" sections is the equivalent of gouging my eyes out with forks on the 4th layer of hell
dude got punked on live TV, biden would never

"Xi's purpose was to make Trudeau lose face publicly at home and around the world, Saint-Jacques said, noting the confrontation shows the disregard the Chinese president has for the prime minister."
"We have not seen the president of China engaging in this really quite undiplomatic, rough language with a counterpart leader of another country"
"It wasn't a veiled threat. I think it was a fairly direct threat," said Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer of comments Chinese President Xi Jinping made to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "It was as if he was delivering a message and dispensing with Trudeau."
the actual quote: Xi also told Trudeau that "we should have conversations in a respectful way, otherwise, the result can't be predicted."

certainly doesn't make it any better
yea most of these programs are sorry as hell
for the most part what ive gathered is they're just trying to incorporate underprivileged people into the market economy and paint entrepreneurship as community building

Every Colonizer says "uhm actually we didn't gain from colonization" but in the case of the Spanish crown (not private actors) it actually seems true. Looks like it actually f***ed them in the long run lol.

I mean capitalism isn’t gonna help ANYONE in the long run
people into philosotricks here, any of yall into Spinoza? Picked up a little intro book to him cuz I was curious since Althusser is so obsessed with him
Never studied him before so we’ll see

True, but look at what capitalism did for the Anglos in comparison

I've been told Spinoza had big influence on early marx but I haven't read him yet. Saving him when I get to the rest of the enlightenment philosophers

I don’t think this is something attributable specifically to the Spanish and rather something that can be attributed to the unique geography of the British
Basically all the mainland European nations were eventually crippled by expensive colonization
