lacan doesnt really have stable political beliefs at all. pretty sure he has a single misplaced quote from a lecture like "marxist theory was and is, of course, true" but never actually indicated he was an outright marxist in any manner politically; marxists philosophers who came later built off of theories in isolation of his and then it was reverse-projected onto him politically mostly by modern rwers that he was an actual marxist/leftist even though ironically most of his contemporary inspirations are not only barely legible within the framing of his writing but also aren't even marxist, only colloquially "leftist" I wouldn't call him an outright conservative though imo as much as just like "unfocused politically beyond contemporary norms". It's true though it is ironic that a lot of his teachings if read from the source could easily be adapted into conservative/rw philosophy if desired but often isn't because it's tainted in partisanship by association with modern academia

standing up to qatar's labor conditions is western imperialism, it's imposing westernized standards of life and assumed western white quality of life onto foreign cultures ✊

found a new grift in life conservative lacanian podcast

not surprising seemed like lacan was politically incoherent to be like a rockstar intellectual when i hear about having s***in the back of cabs, getting the girl that would be his second wife pregnant while at the same time getting his first wife pregnant or maybe just a s***addict

as @WRU said Wright is a big one who is really not taught in schools. Ralph Ellison is another one. Some others would be Jean Toomer (who i've talked about before), Wallace Thurman, Gwendolyn Bennett, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay, George S Schuyler, and if you want a very different view of things (not necessarily correct) maybe someone like Zora Neale Hurston or Jessie Fauset.

Noted, will look into everyone you mentioned, thank you so much

I'm familiar with some of these names already and have read Invisible Man but are there any works in particular besides FIRE!! you'd recommend?

i wouldnt recommend FIRE!! itself as that was just a magazine and there was only one issue. its just that everyone who worked on it went on to have really interesting literary careers.

    from most of those names here's recommendations from each;

    Wright:
    The Outsider
    Uncle Tom's Children
    Native Son (@)
    The God that Failed (@)

    Ellison:
(already said invisible man so leaving that off but yeah thats the big one)
    Juneteenth

    Toomer:
    Cane (@)

    Thurman:
The Blacker The Berry (yes that is where it comes from)
    Harlem: A Forum

    Bennett:
I admittedly know the least about her work outside of "Wedding Day". I think she was mainly a contributor to other people's works so you may need to search her up specifically for those contributions.

    Cullen:
he was mainly a poet and langston hughes collaborator so you'd mainyl want to look into his compilations in things like Color

    McKay:
    Home to Harlem
    Banana Bottom
    If We Must Die (@)

    Schuyler:
    Black No More (@)
outside of the above you're likely gonna have trouble finding his other work as it was mainly essays and he was politically schizophrenic

    Hurston:
Their Eyes Were Watching God (@)
    Dust Tracks on a Road
    Mules & Men

    Fauset:
    Plum Bun

note i havent fully read all of these but im at least familiar. if not vaguely, with them from a historical/importance angle. anything ive personally read i've added a @ next to

    i wish

im saying that they can help aid liberal/electoral democracy by sponsoring alternative media and news sources to counter Chile's media hegemony where like two groups control 90% of media and use it to spread propaganda regarding the newly proposed constitution for example, so pre much just a diversification and democratization of media

i did wanna talk about how canadian imperialism vis a vis their ~50 mining companies in Chile contributes to inequality and undermines democracy but i dont think i have enough room

    w05.international.gc.ca/projectbrowser-banqueprojets/filter-filtre

also i love this resource you can filter by country and see what program canadas done in a specific country/region. the programs also have policy markers which is really funny, theres stuff like gender equality, Indigenous issues, climate change mitigation, and environmental sustainability being targeted and then you look at the program description and its about ergonomics or like planting more trees

This project aims to implement a sustainable training program in ergonomics to improve male and female workers' health and increase the safety of Chilean women's working conditions. This project includes the training of two students in a professional Master's program in ergonomics at UQAM, allowing them to perform ergonomic interventions and teach ergonomics in Chile. As part of this project, 14 inspectors from the Ministries of Health and Labour and 14 union and community representatives are trained in ergonomics and gender. Activities also include an international seminar which brings together experts to share knowledge and good practices for improving workplace health interventions in Chile, while making them more gender-sensitive.

    wtf are yall talking about
