It's pretty early to draw conclusions like that off a single quarter of data, but I'd also point out that, yknow, a bunch of people across the country conspired to overthrow the government

totally justifies militarizing the police when domestic law enforcement can already roll over these thirds like nothing 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Biden didn’t campaign on defunding the police...

The right brainwashed them into thinking he did.

Idk much about this governor tbh. He must not be from the new republican line of thought. Republican governor of west virginia has done some based things too. it’s strange.

Some good news for the dems

The parliamentarian-- the rules expert in the Senate-- is allowing them to use budget reconciliation not once, but 2 more times this year

Budget reconciliation allows them to pass legislation with a simple majority while avoiding a filibuster

The American Rescue Plan, which delivered direct checks to 86% of households and is on track to cut poverty by over 30%, received only 51 votes and passed through reconciliation

This gives them an opportunity to pass the next infrastructure bill using the same process without having to worry about obstruction... for now

    How surprising lol

but on the same side. most politicians do this. they need something to run on.

It’s a whole lot of nothing. Biden ordered a funding/work stoppage on the wall in January, and it expired at the end of March, so different departments have discussed what might happen going forward. That’s literally all that happened.

Man, Manchins stance on the filibuster just amplifies the both parties are the same conspiracy...who knows if someone else is telling him not to nuke it because dems and reps fighting over voting rights is a good thing.

President Biden announces new measures to target gun violence, calls shootings “an epidemic and an international embarrassment”

In the wake of surging gun sales, and several high profile mass shootings in just the past 30 days

The President will not be able to pass comprehensive gun reform without Congress. But the Biden admin is able to enact small reforms via executive action:

    • Restrictions on “ghost guns”— guns that can be assembled from ordered parts, and lacking serial numbers
    • Directing the Justice Department to coordinate w states that want laws to temporarily restrict people from guns if they are a danger to themselves or others
    • Directing the Justice Department to file an annual report on gun trafficking, which the ATF has not done in over 20 years
    • Proposing a new head for the ATF

The President also urged Congress to pass gun reform laws:

    • Banning assault weapons
    • Repeal liability protection from gun manufacturers
    • Requiring background checks for guns purchased at shows or online
    • Restrictions on purchasing guns for people who have committed domestic violence. Cause that’s apparently not in place already

Gun violence in America disproportionately impacts black people.

Mass shootings had decreased last year due to a lack of public gatherings, but gun homicides as a whole actually hit record levels in 2020. The vast majority of people killed were black, in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Chicago.

I think he will. The White House reportedly communicates with him constantly, I don’t think they would be making such a huge deal of this bill if they weren’t confident they can get him on board

I doubt that’s the case, most Dems definitely want to do a voting rights bill bc it would make it easier for them to win. But there’s definitely other Dems opposed to getting rid of the filibuster that are hiding behind Manchin and Sinema
