Like, did anyone hear about this man dying? Nope. But official government accounts can post cherrypicked mugshots of black men to stoke hatred and half the country doesn't bat an eye.
My mom has a heart of gold but has totally bought into immigrant/dei fear because she sees it all the time on facebook.
I can't stress enough how important it is to try to get as much of your news as possible from independent journalists and ideally avoid getting your news from social media altogether. I'm a bit of a hypocrite on that front, but I guess I feel some sort of responsibility to stay tapped in to the national dialogue so I'm equipped to have those conversations with IRLs when they inevitably come up, but man, I think everybody would be a hell of a lot happier and certainly less fearful of their fellow man if they just disconnected.
Unironically they should just report every single crime that happens as they receive news on it

I get what you're saying but even if there was an official account that just posted every single arrest that wouldn't stop news outlets and government accounts from highlighting the ones they want.
It's been really sobering slowly finding out that like 95% of Americans get their news from social media and never dig deeper than that. No fact checking, just parroting.
