I don't get why you're trying gain some false sense of superiority here. There was just a bunch of misinformation spreading at the time, that what happens during moments like these, not to mention some people coping like myself in fear of the worst possible outcome and we're living it rn. It's crazy that we live in a time where everybody has instant access to info in real time and the powers that be can manipulate algorithms to push whatever specific story fits their narrative but nobody seems to realize that

Like, did anyone hear about this man dying? Nope. But official government accounts can post cherrypicked mugshots of black men to stoke hatred and half the country doesn't bat an eye.

My mom has a heart of gold but has totally bought into immigrant/dei fear because she sees it all the time on facebook.

I can't stress enough how important it is to try to get as much of your news as possible from independent journalists and ideally avoid getting your news from social media altogether. I'm a bit of a hypocrite on that front, but I guess I feel some sort of responsibility to stay tapped in to the national dialogue so I'm equipped to have those conversations with IRLs when they inevitably come up, but man, I think everybody would be a hell of a lot happier and certainly less fearful of their fellow man if they just disconnected.
