it's a movie that is told from the recollection of a bitter old man. This is literally why certain moments are barely shown at all (like his youth or his war experience), whereas moments like the Detroit sequence or Hoffa and Little getting into an argument are given so much screen time and continuity. The film is literally sketched as a domino effect of regrets that lead to what Sheeran believes is the biggest mistake of his life, but it is very evident in how the film is edited how he is an aging old man who has very a very skewed point of view on a number of topics such as the fame of Hoffa or of his potential inability to see how impactful his youth was on who he became.
Might as well have stretched runtime to 800000 hours for that extra immersion.

movies mean differently to different people. there's been critically lauded movies that just didn't connect with me in any way or things i didn't personally like about them I hope someone wouldn't discredit my taste or future opinion for that reason.
