The fact that it's slow paced is really not up for debate (it is slower paced than Goodfellas) and the last hour could have been trimmed down considerably. The runtime is not really warranted tbh, it's nothing more than Marty just jacking off to himself (not that there is anything wrong with that).
The last hour is literally the best part of the movie
The runtime is definitely warranted and the last hour is literally what makes this film one of the greatest American movies oat
The first hour and a half is literally paced like Goodfellas so that is a false statement
Marty’s best work has come from this decade. His old stuff just feels too straightforward after seeing what he’s been capable of with these films
There is literally nothing special about the movie, it felt like something I have seen a hundred times before including the predictable ending.
Calling it one of the best of oat is just laughable. Maybe if it was released 20-40 years ago you'd have an argument for that.
This is just nostalgia/emotion taking over and it's understandable why (4 legends at the end of their careers making one last stand together).

lol every gangster movie based on real events is predictable. This movie literally tells you that Hoffa gets killed by Sheeran in the first 2 minutes of the movie.
Scorsese's gangster movies have never been about trying to figure out the ending. They are about the journey and the characters and this is top-notch in both areas, especially in how it is edited and structured, which is just levels beyond most American films.
And also it has nothing to do with nostalgia or emotion. Irishman is a perfectly told story for what it is trying to be. It is a one of a kind gangster movie and Scorsese has never done anything like this before. The closest we have really seen to this is what Coppola tried to do with his Godfather trilogy, and even then that doesn't go as far as Scorsese does with the idea of criminals living a life where their actions gradually start to haunt them more and more. The whole point is that these men never truly get caught and they have to live with the horrible things they have done in isolation and it is presented in a way I haven't seen in any American gangster movie.
Yo is this the first time niggas are watching a movie over 2hr 45m
“Could’ve been cut” yeah then everyone would’ve been like the first 2 acts were really fleshed out and the ending was rushed
This was an epic like Once Upon A Time in America and The Godfather Trilogy.

You were just calling out his old movies for being straight forward when this is as straight forward as you can get.
Also the actors were showing their age, many of the jokes were forced and a lot of the slow mo shots were totally unnecessary.
I wouldn’t call that top-notch. It wouldn’t have hurt if it was a tad shorter.
Holy s*** list

the actors showing their age is literally the point of the movie LMFAO
it's a movie that is told from the recollection of a bitter old man. This is literally why certain moments are barely shown at all (like his youth or his war experience), whereas moments like the Detroit sequence or Hoffa and Little getting into an argument are given so much screen time and continuity. The film is literally sketched as a domino effect of regrets that lead to what Sheeran believes is the biggest mistake of his life, but it is very evident in how the film is edited how he is an aging old man who has very a very skewed point of view on a number of topics such as the fame of Hoffa or of his potential inability to see how impactful his youth was on who he became.
