This tape was a smart move after Camp, i honestly like this and camp about equally but this was definitely a smart move. I don’t think he really won hip hop over with this tape but he definitely made people more open to him which was the perfect set up to BTI
Its actually crazy how good BTI is like Royalty doesnt prepare you for it at all
yeaa made people open to him is exactly what it was about. like coming off that if you heard he was doing some ambitious s*** you might be like okay lemme tune in. coming off camp hearing about the short film and all that i might have been like Ehhhh
This is real mursick. I miss indie/electronic and rap collabs/remixes
Classic mixtape, I just really wish he kept improving his pen after BTI and stay consistent, but I'm not mad at him diving deep into singing.
Its also interesting seeing how solo gambino beats sound on mixtapes compared to the gambino x ludwig beats on the album
I felt like Donald is underrated as a solo producer. He has a great ear for sounds and melodies, but I do believe when he gets with Ludwig, they take each other to the next level.
Their chemistry is unmatched.
Absolute classic. Elite rapping and production. Potentially the best assortment of feature verses on any rap project ever..
Bro! I f***ing love this mixtape! It's probably in my top 5 mixtapes of that era and I hate that it never gets talked about.
Definitely deserves a streaming re-release. The feature list was literally insane as well, I was on a road trip with my friend last year gushing over how crazy it was.
I was on a road trip with my mom in Maine and we stopped at a McDonalds so I could hop on their free WiFi and download the mixtape from DatPiff. Classic moments
perfect representation of the royalty tape, gets a legend to go first on the track and then gives himself a beat switch to come in and kill it. its like mind control for rap fans, they wake up and are like ok damn hes actually good at this
I’ve said this a lot but I really wish we got more yoshinoya, mid life, say less on bando stone bc when he raps he can go so crazy
Cody Bean Senior, pushin' mean ether. You don't know Childish?
NIGGA ME NEITHER
EAST SIDE ATLANTA, FLYEST NIGGA IN A WAFFLE HOUSE
I never have and probably never will understand this man’s music
Which albums have you heard from him? Just curious
It's crazy how Gambino's best music are his deep cuts/mixtapes (Culdesac, Royalty, STN MTN/Kauai)
I felt like Donald is underrated as a solo producer. He has a great ear for sounds and melodies, but I do believe when he gets with Ludwig, they take each other to the next level.
Their chemistry is unmatched.
Yeah totally agreed
I feel like Ludwig helped him flesh out his sound and take it to the next level but it was definitely his sound. At least on Camp and BTI, it seemed like he became a little more hands off on the beats on AML but still was producing the overall sound
Which albums have you heard from him? Just curious
Culdesac (I think that’s what it was called)
Camp
royalty
Because the internet
I don’t even think he’s a terrible rapper or singer I just don’t get what his music is going for at all
It’s that nigga y’all knew back when I flipped meal cards
