i found this project to be really fascinating to look back on when we think about childish gambino's career

in retrospect everything about it from the beat selection, the song topics, his voice, the way he rolled it out, the way he used the features, feels specifically like a response to the way Camp got panned

BTI is to a lot of people his "classic" but i think this project played a really big role in setting up his shift before that. what do yall think

Definitely deserves a streaming re-release. The feature list was literally insane as well, I was on a road trip with my friend last year gushing over how crazy it was.

prime example of a project that dropped in that 2010-2014 pre streaming dominance era where it wasnt quite big enough to get the whole red carpet DSP re-release I guess or the artist doesn't prioritize it so it just sits there floating on the internet

Even a lot of hardcore hip hop fans I know don't know about this tape somehow. My friend on that road trip is very tapped in but had never listened to it.

He had Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown, Chance, Ghostface Killah, Boi 1-da, Nipsey, literally Blake Griffin, f***ing Beck on that tape lmao

perfect representation of the royalty tape, gets a legend to go first on the track and then gives himself a beat switch to come in and kill it. its like mind control for rap fans, they wake up and are like ok damn hes actually good at this

and a big part of the video is pointing out that bino goes second on 9 out of 11 of the feature tracks. theres a reason he let all those guys go first. it was like an audition for him to win their fanbases over

I legit hated camp, didnt even know who donald was, so I only got it for the people he had on it. s*** was good as hell and introduced so many people to rappers who later became superstars

its because its never been put on streaming. I have friends from high school who I know listened to it and legit forgot it exists
