Jay Z released 8 straight #1 albums from 1998 to 2004, at least one every single year

From 1999 to 2002, he had the (at the time) record for the most consecutive weeks charting on the Hot 100 for a rapper, a record that wasn’t broken until 2011 by Wayne

Ok, you a JAY-Z stan, we get it

Ok, you a JAY-Z stan, we get it

I’m just saying there’s absolutely no metric or criteria into which any of these new guys can be compared to Jay whatsoever

Jay came out the gate with a classic album, and quickly followed that up with a decade straight of commercial success and broke records that rappers had never set before at the time

That’s because they had to lmao

If you in my age range and even below
We didn’t grow up in a world where white music dominated. Rap was thriving

In fact I look down on niggas who had to” get into rap”

Niggas not born in this s***?

    tbh

These threads go in circles because no one can even decide whether they’re talking about the mainstream or the underground, and then if you dare say anything about the mainstream there’s always a nigga with a laundry list of hipster artists to show you rap is actually perfectly fine and you’re not “tapped in”

    Snoozefest of a discussion honestly

He doesn’t even rap remotely like Carti lol it’s not even like he’s a mainly rage artist it in the god damn songs that u clearly haven’t even opened to be making such a hollow baseless critiques like my god dawg if u say Uzi or something that makes more sense but the only similarity to Carti over anyone else on this list is like he picks rage beats sometimes and they are on the same label, since when was Carti rapping slow as hell over deftones samples dawg it’s not technically it’s just flat out wrong and you don’t know what your talking about

Lone was on what he was in his opium before Carti found him the only thing that changed is his budget and he did a bit more rage

    !https://youtu.be/zdfacEpzDIA?si=kHaXZQrBPYAYhhA3!https://youtu.be/KUqx1MFKpqE?si=nNAeJmSB205zyzAT!https://youtu.be/WKMZK2NNrwo?si=5FpDSN_P4LsuPevV!https://youtu.be/M71mcODMOOE?si=SzN2HYAYa3OuQYKG!https://youtu.be/cteaMVDbpig?si=V4Oc9yPDm_nmRJV0!https://youtu.be/KBnUAJqbe_s?si=C2tjaDkQci_ZtJSm

GIVE ME ONE CARTI VERSE THAT SOUNDS LIKE EXPIRATION DATE RIGHT NEOOWWWWW

And I don’t make that kind of music dummy don’t assume s*** I make boom bap beats most commonly my music is out there what’s that about I don’t think I’ve ever even made a proper rage beat other than twice

it may be stuck to u that’s something u can feel it doesn’t mean it’s stuck to other people it’s not relevant even to the initial claim, yes these guys all take musical influence outside of hip hop they will tell you that so will ppl around u and I can accurately tell you where it’s seen all u have to give me is just meaningless b****ing about wah wah my old ass doesn’t like s*** not made for me u don’t have to like it dawg no one asked u to nor does anyone care for ur long winded rant shaking ur first at the clouds don’t act like that makes what u have to say somehow any more superior lol

I literally said you were gonna say all that lmao

Y’all never understand what people mean when they say “ripoff carti”

I don’t mean his music is a direct ripoff of carti in exactly every single way. It fills the same niche tho, It’s the same type of music. Pointing out all these subtle differences doesn’t f***ing matter

You yourself just said boom bap. Do you mean Premo type s***? Dilla type s***? RZA? When you say boom bap you’re describing an archetype. That’s what people mean when they say “carti type s***”

I’m also not saying “oh man we need to go back to boom bap” lmao if hip hop never evolved past that it would’ve died a long time ago. I’m saying we need something new that resonates with everyone

Post one of your boom bap beats tho

And it was still #1 in the country and his new song out streamed offset’s entire album even if there was better competition he’d be high on the chart
If I see someone listening to Ken Carson on their phone in public i am not even remotely phased
    He’s mainstream bro

    Yea. Mainstream.

If “mainstream” means your new album freefalls out of the Top 50 within three weeks, then that is precisely the problem we are talking about when we discuss 2020s mainstream rap

    It always has been
Do u consider 2011 rocky mainstream? He barley even cracked top 50 at all
What about Tyler pre Igor or flower boy

2020s the only era where being “mainstream” means u have to be a commercial juggernaut and having the #1 album in the country isn’t enough. The guy is clearly big enough. Unless we gonna go back and fourth like twitter pop divas about rap I guess.

Rocky did not release a project for sale in 2011.

His debut album sold 139K and debuted at #1 before streaming.

We could do doechii, jid, MIKE whoever

Idk it jsut seems like a very selectively specific thing ur talking about then that isn’t representative of modern hip hop rly

He’s saying that y’all name these obscure, niche Carti-clone tier artists that nobody over the age of 21 listens to whenever people say that rap is struggling in the mainstream in the 2020s

Irrelevant to my point Liveloveasap still charted would u consider him mainstream then, or Tyler pre 2019, or 2 chainz in any era other than based on a tru story

Dawg yall gotta realize you talk like pop white girls on twitter about music now this is never how people have discussed hip hop lol no one ever talks about the state of the game then we have to bring up a pie graph of RECORD SALES like “ugh he flopped he only went #1 cuz of this and that and he fell to #30 2nd week!”
