We're talking about overall catalog, not one-year snapshots of all-time

Future is one of the most commercially successful musicians (not just rappers, musicians) of all-time

Thug & Migos are legends but nowhere near him commercially

if we talking catalogue, I can promise you more niggas are calling Migos catalogue and hits in the 2010s classics over Future. Migos catalogue gets deep once you get to their mixtapes outside the albums and features lmfao. Gambino wasn’t calling them niggas the Beatles for no reason. them niggas were untouchable for 6-7 years

  • Vince put it best:

  • Mafia Boss

    Weeks on billboard 200:

    Cole: 2014 - 604
    Future: ds2 - 347
    Future: i never liked you - 217
Future: high off life - 93
    ----- gap -----
    Cole: off season - 75
    future: future -73
    cole: kod - 72
    cole: 4 your eyes - 69
    ---- gap ----
    future: mixtape pluto - 25
cole: the fall off - 18
cole: might delete later - 8

    🫣

i think cole still got him for 2010s ngl

mixtape pluto lasting longer than the album cole spent eight years hyping up is insane lol. he is so lucky he has 2014 FHD to hard carry his legacy.

I'd honestly say that Future and Migos catalog of hits and tapes are about on the same level in the public sphere.

Realistically Future, Young Thug/Rich Homie Quan, and Migos all thrived and got bigger because they were all popping around the same time and they were all in the same lanes. Wasn't a rivalry or anything, if one of them ate, then all of them ate in a sense.

And this brings me back to the original point of trap music just not being respected by (white) people

Future has an incredibly rich and quality catalog, but because he's not seen as lyrical, or even legible, he's not recognized in these convos

Aye man I’m not white far from it and like I said I fw Future I live in Atlanta that nigga a goat fr

But to call him a lyricist is a stretch even by the most generous standards. And I can hear every word he is saying. His flows be crazy (even though he’s kinda regressed in that department recently) but beyond that he doesn’t use any sort of high skill level
rap technique he doesn’t spit bars or similes he doesn’t have metaphors or entendres, he doesn’t have advanced rhyme schemes, and his subject matter is 1 dimensional

Yes, nobody said he's a better lyricist than Cole

But the art of rapping is about more than just lyricism

Besides lyricism & storytelling, you could genuinely make the argument that Future is better than Cole at every other aspect of rapping (flow, delivery, cadence, presence, hooks, songwriting, etc.)

Aye man we just debating in circles right now at the end of the day the culture has spoken the big 3 is Kendrick Drake and Cole

Are there people like yourself who argue Future? For sure. I myself have him at 4 right outside the big 3 I would almost consider it a big 4

It all depends on your values and most people who engage in these sorts of debates require rappers to be capable lyricists not just have great flows/delivery etc but you may feel differently that’s cool

That wasn't an argument at all, it was a discussion about music... on a music forum
