It’s niggas itt now agreeing with me what you talking about gang

But even if there wasn’t KTT is a known hub for Cole haters so that really isn’t a fair assessment of the actual world

Just go outside and ask people bro I can tell you now that the majority of my coworkers rate Cole higher than Drake and Kendrick

Obviously lm not saying I agree I’m just saying that is a valid rap opinion that exists

    I’ll go outside and ask

I am somewhat devils advocate here by the way I love discussing this s***

Also, the inherent dismissal and belittlement of trap music as a genre is very real. No, it’s not true that it is always commercially-friendly. You can easily make the argument that a project like Mixtape Pluto is just commercially un-friendly like any conscious lyrical album, just for different reasons

  • Smacked Voodoo

Cole gets to be in the big three, yet off the top of my head, I can name five of his contemporaries with discographies that blow his out the water.

But whenever I do that, Cole stans run to sales...which is hilarious because they are the same people who will say that sales don't determine quality.

    It’s crazy!

I’m seeing that bias ITT right now

Even funnier because the only real sales metric that Cole can boast about is first week sales

When it comes to catalog sales & streams, there’s like five other rappers from his own generation above him

Because you’re acting like Cole has the odds against him being a lyrical conscious rapper and trying to be commercial

But there’s another guy in the Big 3 who does the exact same thing and is just as if not more commercially successful than Future, so clearly that’s not the reason

Aye man we can’t all be Dot

Dot is like PAC Nas and Ye rolled in one generational talent and hit maker

Cole like a Nas seed with a lil splash of Hov’s commercial savvy Dot just resonates with a way larger audience again I would never argue Cole over Dot

The fact that Cole and Future are even as close as they are commercially while Cole is 10x the lyricist Future is and way more risky subject matter wise is telling though

But they aren’t close commercially, that’s what I’m tryna say

Future is like… leagues above him on a commercial level. The only thing Cole is close in is first-week sales

Saying that Future is closer to Thug & Migos than he is to Cole commercially is absolutely belittling trap as a genre

Future’s has Billboard records that put his name next to Taylor Swift’s, and you’re saying he’s closer to YOUNG THUG and MIGOS

Leagues above by what metric? He’s dropped more music so he has more total sales ok

He has 3 number ones to Cole’s 1 ok

He’s currently the 6th most streamed rapper this year and Cole is 10th ok

One nigga is a staple in the clubs radios parties and the streets the other nigga is a conscious lyricist that makes traditional hip-hop in a landscape that has completely moved past that sound commercially

    That’s close imo

The gap in Hot 100 entries between Future and J. Cole is a bigger number than the amount of Hot 100 entries J. Cole has himself

If J. Cole had two careers and doubled all his statistics, he would still have less Hot 100 entries than Future

  • Future was 6th this year with no album out

Cole was 10th WITH a new album out

Check their positions in 2025 when they both had no new album out and you’ll see the difference

He probably clears Dot in Hot 100 entries too

Young Thug and Migos are huge artists who blew up alongside Future by then Cole, Drake and Dot were well established in the mainstream

I haven’t said anything wrong bruh lmao. Future blew up in 2012 and Migos in 2013. By 2014 they were very even when Honest and No Label 2 dropped. Fight Night one of the biggest songs in trap and ever in 2014 lol and that’s before Handsome and Wealthy comes on as the B side

Yes, Cole does have more Hot 100 entries than Kendrick, but that's mostly because he has dropped less music than Cole. When it comes to streams, Kendrick has way more than Cole does with less music (56M vs. 32M)

    Weeks on billboard 200:

    Cole: 2014 - 604
    Future: ds2 - 347
    Future: i never liked you - 217
Future: high off life - 93
    ----- gap -----
    Cole: off season - 75
    future: future -73
    cole: kod - 72
    cole: 4 your eyes - 69
    ---- gap ----
    future: mixtape pluto - 25
cole: the fall off - 18
cole: might delete later - 8

    🫣

i think cole still got him for 2010s ngl

We're talking about overall catalog, not one-year snapshots of all-time

Future is one of the most commercially successful musicians (not just rappers, musicians) of all-time

Thug & Migos are legends but nowhere near him commercially

And also again y’all keep fixating on the numbers like we ain’t already establish the criteria for this lmao it’s numbers AND lyricism you can’t just have one

Ya’ll fixated on the sales when it come to Future but y’all don’t apply that same logic when it comes to Drake over Kendrick lol

Drake is way bigger than Kendrick but that doesn’t stop people from rating Kendrick higher than Drake

  • ryuH

big 3 is not about being the best rapper

no one says ti and 50 cent are top tier rappers like that.

And this brings me back to the original point of trap music just not being respected by (white) people

Future has an incredibly rich and quality catalog, but because he's not seen as lyrical, or even legible, he's not recognized in these convos
