Yeah.. QT really needs to stfu about Lee man lol
I don’t even know what his questionable politics are. He supports free health care, likes guns but agrees with reasonable restrictions, is a bit confused by the rapidly changing narratives on the gender stuff, and is for free speech. Idk that sounds like most working class Americans whether they lean more towards the left or right. There’s a reason Bernie Sanders went on his show and was able to win over a good chunk of his audience. Hate to break it to people but most normal non chronically online human beings have messy complicated politics that don’t fit neatly into an organized ideology. Go into a bar and listen to people’s conversations, it’s not a Wikipedia summary of a belief system.
I don't watch him regularly but yeah, never really understood the hate for him (idk about the fanbase, have no clue on that). Maybe he got some takes here and there where I personally don't agree with but nothing controversial or borderline offensive
Besides, he is a great interviewer and brings a lot interesting conversations from guests most of the times
This QT episode was a good example of that
Tarantino was right. It was his movie, it was an exaggerated goofy scene, and there’s plenty of evidence he’s correct with his characterization of Lee. Anybody but his daughter can f*** off. Nice that she’s voicing her opinion since it’s the only one that’s worth listening to other than the directors. This conversation has been exhausted. Someone can have simultaneously contributed to the art forms they worked in, faced adversity because of who they are, and also still be an arrogant a****** sometimes. It’s like she watched only 30 seconds of the negative stuff in the interview and ignored the praise Tarantino had for him as well as him literally listing films he loves from Lee.
Tarentino didn’t say anything discrediting him being an Asian man making it in Hollywood. I also don’t really remember him slandering him in any way.
He seemed to be a big fan of him or at least interested in his story and knew a lot about it.
and the worst thing he said was that there is stories of Bruce being rude and ‘big time’-y to stunt men and other crew members.
But he also said the only person he doesn’t mind being angry about it is Bruce’s direct family because that’s their dad and obviously they’d find issue.
he more or less trashed bruce lee and made him look like a fraud, of course people are gonna keep talking about it
Sorry I’ll take the word of tons of people who’ve come out and said he was difficult to work with and arrogant over his daughter who was 4 when he died. She has no meaningful memories of him to say otherwise. My father died when I was 7 and I hardly have any concrete memories of him let alone a deep understanding of his character. The way she’s framing this as a racial thing is totally bizarre. If Steve McQueen characterized him the same way in one of his movies she’d just change the talking point around a little bit.
Context matters though lol people like he was an a****** and s*** but yo be fair it was 1960s Hollywood. Dude probably did have to be a d*** to get ahead, prior to him what prominent Asians did you really see in Hollywood like that
naw QT went too far when he said mad as f*** "bruce lees wife is a liar!!" lol joe rogan looked shook
I was fine with the way Bruce Lee was portrayed until finding out that Tarantino doesn't f*** with Bruce Lee like that

True
Apparently he was kicking and actually hitting stunt men but imagine if we aren’t hearing the fact the crew was all racist asf to him for the whole shoot
which I entirely assume would be the case.

Some of the s*** niggas like Sammy Davis had to endure was pretty crazy lol I can only imagine what it was like being a minority back then in Hollywood
QT could easily say that the scene was a memory he was having and that Cliff wasn’t a reliable narrator for the story and it isn’t confirmed that those events happened exactly that way if he really wants to just end this whole thing
Y’all acting like Lee hasn’t been essentially deified by the culture for like 40 years at this point. It’s not a big deal that his image gets a little pushback against the godlike one he’s been given for so long.

I’m pretty sure he said that originally but the more people attacked him over it he’s basically just doubled down. Lol
All I know is I respect the balls on Tarantino to challenge the myth making of someone

That’s how I seen things but tbh if it is true Lee was an a****** to others then the scene works. Also, yeah if Lee was to fight someone who has actual military fighting experience, I think it’s a different convo if we just talk like a straight up fight
yeah off those 2, I def am. But I think I've only expressed huge praise for Citizen Kane so far.
I think A Touch of Evil is really good too though
Nah you’ve definitely praised Welles as an artist which nothing wrong with. Just figured you would explore into more of his work. The Trial>>>>

Take a look at Lady from Shanghai, one of my favourite Welles

Climax of that movie is pure kino
idk about MUCH...at least not yet I'm only like 6 chapters in...but yeah if they threw all this into the film idk if you'd find Cliff as likeable tbh lol he's got the same good qualities as in the film such as being a loyal friend and whatnot but there's a lot more insight into his thought process and it's pretty dark
Lemme know how you found it when you finish

I don't mind that. What I find hilarious is QT actually pushing this narrative that a fictional character, if they fought Bruce Lee real life with no rules, Bruce Lee would be dead
That's like debating who would win a boxing match between Mike Tyson and He-Man or Goku. This is ignoring the fact that mans has no fight experience whatsoever and he talking with authority about this s*** lmaoo. But it's whatever though, he has a right to defend his artistic liberties, all that.
Also, it's pretty easy to s*** on someone who's 6 feet deep and not there no more to stand their ground.
