Houston is incredible in a lot of ways but I know this video is gonna rip it rightfully for its bullshit sprawl/planning
Do you have any more videos/reads/books about public transit?
I tried to pursue urban planning because of my experiences with public transit and walking in another sprawling Texan city (Austin) but have become discouraged for multiple reasons. I absolutely love public transit though (I'm glad you mentioned the social aspect that comes with transit/walking vs how isolating cars are, public transit really opens you up to a wider world in ways I could talk about all day) and always want to learn more about it.
Living right next to marta js f***ing GOATED. i only have to fill my tank up once a month lol.
Indubitably. I dream of a world with a fantastic built public transportation network.
It was a culture shock not seeing no damn sidewalks in houston. Its prob the worst laid out city in thr world. It doesnt even feel like its the biggest city in the country

Wait where were you at in the H that was straight without sidewalks?
How is it I get car sick in cars and not in a bus
Cars are small and confining compared to a bus
Bus rides so relaxing to me, were always my second favorite place to sleep growing up

I was in tomball lol. I only seen sidewalks downtown
Not having to look at this hellscape everyday has 100% made my life better.
This is such a stupid ass meme
Self Reliance is
by this logic you should be walking everywhere or you're not a real man
debate should be
roundabouts > traffic lights
Just wanna say that here it's not common for young people to have cars. I'm 23 and only two people I know from my age have cars. One guy because he's actually into cars and a girl because she's f***ing rich.
Here a car is like a house. You usually buy it when you are finally "adulting", in your late 20s. And it's an investment because it's VERY expensive.

Where is "here"
I take the train to work every day and it has its stresses but for me personally it's much more relaxing than sitting in traffic. Cheaper than the filling the tank out here too.
I'm almost 30. Live in the burbs of chi. Close enough to the city. And I have no reason to have a car. The opposite of an investment
BUT
Chicago has incredible
by this logic you should be walking everywhere or you're not a real man
At the most extreme version of this possibly.
Bikes are also great but again the area you live in needs to be designed for you to do it safely and quickly
