I’m not saying you HAVE to be a Jay fan.. I grew up hearing Jay but I wasn’t really a fan until later in life. Once I went back and started from Reasonable doubt, but it was really the black album that clicked with me.
But it was really the critique itself that was off. I’m not saying he’s the PERFECT rapper even he himself said he dumbed himself down to sell records but IMO his best is the Blue Print but he has a catalogue where my favorite album might not connect with you the way it did with me.
So I would say if you don’t wanna go the traditional route starting at his first. His top three “entry level albums” would be his debut, Blue Print and the Black album.
