Still crazy to me that they went the Marvel route.
This s*** could have been an Incredible movie and they ruined the potential.
    Still cool tho

Some of ya have too much of an issue with humor lol. There were rarely any moment in the movie where I felt like the humor undercut any serious scene

You even joke like a mcu movie

Not really. it's overall a lighthearted movie so it's comedic in nature but when it gets serious there weren't any jokes

  • Mar 25

The jokes are just some eye rolling level at times but it’s more snl than mcu

S***s so weird lol. Any non edgy humor or humor that is for adults and kids is now “marvel humor”

Then these same people will tell you comparison is the thief of joy…

  • Mar 25

The jokes are just not the strong point of the movie to me . It doesn’t need to be compared to anything . It’s just not like it hugely makes you laugh . Made me smile on occasion but some jokes are over used . The sentimental human moments are highlight of this movie and wholesome message .

I don't have an issue with humor. EEAAO is my favorite movie of the decade. I just thought the humor in this was bland and I thought there were times where it lessened my emotional investment because it prevented me from buying into the realism and stakes of the moment. Therefore, it prevented me from connecting with the characters. It's an issue with tone management.

what do you guys think of these two takes:

    https://twitter.com/spencer_askew/status/2036543517309227449https://twitter.com/HiddenYorkshire/status/2036343202404270153

I don't know how fully I agree with either, but I do on a basic level.

I've pointed this out to people irl, but it does feel like a "hopecore" movie. A trend I (personally) noticed with Superman last year and then One Battle After Another (compare it to it's more cynical twin, Eddington) as well as Hoppers.

And it makes sense. The world sucks right now, everything is doom and gloom so it's refreshing to escape for the length of a film and come out feeling a little more optimistic about life.

And this is coming from someone that normally wouldn't care for "feel good" films but I loved the examples I mentioned lol

I have the opposite take. I think the juxtaposition of the tone and the actual context of the situation was really well balanced.

It was already a really dread and hopeless situation to the point it was considered a suicide mission. So grace being able to find some warmth and joy despite all makes the heart of the movie

Ya see, I never felt dread, and I never felt hopeless, despite the movie being called Project Hail Mary. Agree to disagree on this.

I mean most of us already expected him to win . Then if anything we thought Rocky may die or get hurt . They did the triple pump fake of thinking grace was going to die then Rocky twice . Then he saves humanity .

I never felt dread and that’s not cause or the humor but because the story wasn’t shocking

Think you guys are mistaking what I meant. The SETTING of the story was dread and hopeless. As in the story was set in a world where humanity was on a timeline so much they decided on fully committing to a suicide mission as their last hope
