Just my opinion but this take is so incredibly lazy I’m sorry. I understand the sentiment but you can’t put hip hop back in a box of underground parties in NYC. For the long term preservation I think it’s important for hip hop to be successful, hopefully with a new generation that can push it forward even further. We need to continue to have it as an perpetual inspiration
it’s in fact not awesome whole s*** destabilized
People always mysteriously and vaguely say this but what artists are they thinking of
Errol Holden is f***in great but I don’t think him having a major label or 106 and Park videos changes his career
Point being that while of course there are great rappers/great rap music being made the fundamental Kanye Wayne Drake Kendrick Jay Wayne 50 Luda TI tier rappers (decently lyrical yet digestible over exciting production of its time) largely don’t exist to find lol
“Just listen to underground hip hop bro!” is probably the lamest, deliberately missing the point ass take you can have in this discussion
Mainstream anything is a reflection of society and as society decays so will mainstream music
And anyone still using mainstream metrics to decide who to listen to is a braindead f***in idiot
I’m didn’t watch this clip but seen the whole thing and I think yall taking him a bit out of context. He’s saying this because he feels like it encourages discovery in a way that the current order of things makes a lot of people too lazy to do at times, which he says he is guilty of himself.
all this means is you'll have a quarter of the active rappers in ten years and most of them will be 40-50 year olds who already ate during hip-hop's prime and thus have the luxury of making music purely for fun. fair or not, way fewer young creatives are gonna bother trying their hand at the genre if there is absolutely no chance they're gonna have some kind of commercial breakout. it's gonna become a very old and stagnant genre that relies mostly on classics from decades ago to carry its legacy forward.
i don’t see anything wrong with what he said but people are cooking him for this take for some reason
the best music has always been a bit harder to access. conversely though, some of the mainstream hip hop from a different time/era was also pretty good too so idk.
that dude is a phony lol
it's a tough conversation because I feel like in some eras like the early-mid 10's or even the 00s, a lot "popular" hip hop during the time people would say it was wack/trash or generic but now looking back I find it to be more creative and fun than the mainstream popular hip hop we get today but maybe I'm just old now
ok take but people are not going to do that

Rappers could throw stuff at the wall and still do decent numbers. Nowadays everything is so predictable
1. Rapper goes moderately viral
2. Rapper gets a feature from one of the Atlanta stable
3. Rapper gets a year of two of relevancy before completely falling off
I feel like the labels ran this same playbook into the ground and now niggas do not care anymore.
Rap Caviar haters itt mad that rap isn’t catering to Rap Caviar
Y'all really hate this nigga
y u acting like getting called a nerd is the biggest insult ever lol
Flatbush Zombies were right
