You are being real disrespectful rn

No one was committing genocide in Ukraine

Absolute moron you don't know what the f*** war is and disgust me

What is the criteria for allowing territories to uniliterally declare independence then? Enlighten us.

It doesn't matter that NATO isn't gonna invade Russia, you never actually engaged with my arguments from this post for why NATO expansion is the primary factor for this conflict:

Then there's also NATO, which is a military alliance that was formed in case that the West would possibly ever have to go to war with Russia during the cold war. Article 5 says that if one NATO member is attacked, it's regarded as an attack against all NATO members.

With the taking down of the Berlin wall, the US promised to Gorbachev would not move "one inch forward" to the East. A promise that has not been held as many other Eastern European countries have joined NATO.

The reason Ukrainian NATO membership is such a threat is that Ukraine is right at their borders. The black sea fleet in the Crimea was Russia's only fleet that was available year round, which is why they annexed the Crimea in 2014 after the US-backed coup in Ukraine, because they would lose access to that fleet which they see as crucial for their security.

In addition, Ukraine has also hinted at "liberating" (ie invading) the Crimea, if Ukraine does that as a NATO member, it's essentially the same as entirety of the West invading the Crimea, as Putin said here:

im pretty sure u copy pasted this at me already bruh

and no, Ukrainian invasion of Crimea with the full backing of NATO would be super super unlikely. The west does not want to invade russia. Simple as. There's no desire there to take over russia.

The west would have no reason to stand by Ukraine if they chose to invade Crimea. Even if Ukraine was in NATO. The article 5 s*** applies to when a country gets attacked not when they launch an offensive.

And this is assuming Ukraine would even pull some s*** like that in the first place. Sure, Putin says they would do that but also DUDE HE'S F***ING PUTIN THE GUY LIES ALL THE F***ING TIME.

As far as "but nato said it wouldn't expand more"...

ok dude the Soviet union does not exist. Russia still does tho. a lot of former soviet republics have long been terrified of getting swallowed up by Russia again cus that seems to happen to us a lot. We don't care what so and so said to Gorbachov like a million years ago, we want solid protection from a Russian invasion. NATO expansion wasn't some manipulative tactic pushed by the West and forced onto these countries. NATO membership is something countries apply for and choose on their own bruh. And yes, a lot of eastern euros rlly do want that nato protection fr, its not them getting scammed into joining

    1. the u.s has actually been making moves to get out of the places they messed up in thes last 10 years

    2. not everywhere is America, and id imagine most americans dont support those invasions let alone the rest of the world

not sure how america even really plays into this so much considering this is mainly a russia ukraine thing huh

The US literally dropped bombs on Somalia as Russia was invading Ukraine and is supporting illegal invasions in Palestine and Yemen, which the UN has called the greatest humanitarian crisis since WW2.

I oppose the Russian invasion, but you're delusional if you think the West opposes this war because of some principled stance against illegal invasions

Is that how international law works?

Then how about the genocide of Native Americans?

How about the millions dead in the Transatlantic Slave Trade

Maybe they deserve some "land-compensation" too

    Kid

The war crimes have been proven, documented and prosecuted by the International Criminal Court in Den Haag

Serbia had mass Graves and was committing genocide against the Christian Croats, Muslim Bosniaks and Albanian Kosovars during the Yugoslavian wars which they still don't admit and have war criminals hiding in Russia meanwhile all of their current neighbors hate them

Don't talk here about Nazis and then cap for actual Nazi s*** Serbia has done

Lol the bombing of yugoslavia was one of the best things western nations ever did and we shouldn't let anyone say otherwise

there are like a billion terrible things that have happened in this world and never been rectified or dealt with.

    whats ur point?

it doesn't make the next terrible thing that happens ok. it doesn't mean anyone who cares abt that terrible thing a bad person. It doesn't mean we should completely ignore that next terrible thing.

Nobody is saying genocide is OK. The question is what circumstances allow a territory to unilaterally declare independence. If genocide does, then the entire USA deserves to be abolished

  • I mean y'all were saying abolish prisons right?
