Funnily enough all the things Trump said about Zelenskyy and Ukraine more accurately applies to Netanyahu and Israel

Lord knows most of these American politicians are way too p**** to say that though.

It looks like the main concern for Putin is the expansion of NATO and the EU towards Russia's borders.

If NATO and the Europe chills out on just letting everyone join NATO and spreading their influence, I don't think Putin will just start invading European countries.

As long as Putin is in charge, NATO and the EU should make it clear that ex Soviet states around Russia will not join NATO so Putin can calm down and sleep at night imo.

That's probably the best path to peace short term.

Hasn't this been a self-fulfilling prophecy though? Didn't Russia scare several neighbors into seeking membership?

    Who really started the encroachment?

Ok sis how do you oppose the war without opposing the aggressor

I know this chaos is a ladder for America but just thinking of how the rest of Europe should react

they were both "aggressors". are you unfamiliar with the concept of inter-imperialist war? or do you believe if you were 18 and French and its 1912 you should die in a trench to protect from the germanic hoarde?

not every war is justifiable. the ukrainians have their own national chauvinism and irridentist claims. you actually dont have to fight for foreign capitalists.

Russia may have scared them but the US needs to prevent them from having NATO membership no matter how Putin treats them for the sake of peace.

I know that sounds messed up to say but the United States and NATO can't protect or help everybody and they shouldn't continue to have a influence in the problems of every country.

They have to be selective in who they let in NATO and respect Putin's concerns.

because if the roles were reversed and we had Russia or China forces near our borders, the United States would go crazy too.

If I learned anything from the book you recommended it's that France was so embroiled in its own class war that they couldn't remotely form a united front against Germany what choice would I have

the choice people made in 1917, to oppose the war and create socialist revolution.

this actually happened, we don't have to talk about it like its a hypothetical.

Again this just sounds like the same p**** footing that occurred in the late thirties but if you say so. Hope you're right.

That required the perfect storm of circumstances which were not the same in France then nor Ukraine now tho right?

Why shouldn't independent countries have a right to decide there own future? Unless Russia is willing to give them security and sovereignty guarantees why would it make sense for these countries to not pursue NATO?

NATO is not a place where your own future is decided

I'm not commenting on that, I'm saying an independent country has a right to pursue that if they want. Same way the UK can leave the EU.

I just think its a dumb argument to be like "Well if ukraine never went to NATO this would be over"

  • Feb 28, 2025

ITT people think the US and Russia are apples and oranges in terms of their extractive relations with satellite nations

They’re the same, the US just has an advantage for historical reasons (no WW2 on their land, no massive societal breakdown)

It would be better to say “a nations ruling class” than a nation

Helps divorce from ideological arguments that obscure real motivations
