Stalin mustve had a hell of a rep. Even Finland 
Politically a lot of capitalist states simply chose Nazi Germany over the USSR because they prefered fascism over communism. The fascists weren't great to them but at least they were dedicated to capitalism. Some Eastern European countries themselves were already fascist or strongly sympathetic to it like Lithuania
A lot of them also looked down on Russians and saw them as barbarians

Iran for the past 80 years has been controlled by 4 people, two were mullahs and the other two king. And look what happens when one person is in charge for lifetime.... Them and their families end up stealing and selling out.
