As much as I like these countries joining NATO, what's the use in preaching self determination when you throw the people who don't even have their own rasclart state under the bus

Then again we don't know if Sweden and Finland actually had to cave on that yet

its kinda weird that finland/sweden were ever supporting YPG-PKK so closely anyway. im not fully on Turkeys side for this since their views for why theyre agaisnt YPG-PKK are less ethical/idealized and more explicitly geopolitical in state-building, but i do somewhat agree that the northern european support for YPG-PKK is bizarrely out of place

beyond the ethnic kurd tensions they basically just dont like YPG-PKK because they interfere with their statebuilding ambitions in MENA not too far off from the US's statebuilding ambitions in central asia. if it was up to Turkey they'd treat Syria, Libya, etc. like the US did w/ the prior govt in afghanistan. in fact turkey is still willing to take the US's place there in afghanistan

I think most of it has to do with what they do in Turkey domestically tbh but that too

yeah it does of course just geographically but the region they occupy simultaneously disadvantages turkey's military in syria & iraq

Because Self determination was never an actual tenet behind NATO. It’s entirely pragmatic and strategic

  • Jun 29, 2022

The point of NATO preaching self determination is so people can support their egregious actions being committed in their name thinking NATO leaders even give a f*** let alone do anything effectively

The special will include appearances by celebrity chef José Andrés and musicians and actors, including Kristen Bell, Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Julianne Moore, Rosie Perez, Jon Batiste, Brandi Carlile, Brian Cox, Vera Farmiga, Jeff Daniels, Lena Headey and Simu Liu, NBC said.

A group of Broadway performers will also come together to sing “What the World Needs Now is Love.”

Entire NATO condemned the Catalonia referendum And what about the self-determination of Donbass. That term is a slippery slope...

    There you have it

Ukrainians aren't exploited pawns, they don't want to give their land up

Those two statements aren’t mutually exclusive

How many poor and exploited Americans feverishly take up nationalist propaganda

How many nazis joined the party after promises of a strong nation in the wake of the depression
