I'm not saying Chinese state media for example is a bad source in itself. For government narratives, Chinese foreign policy etc. it could be very helpful. But there is censorship and mad regulations. No other sources available for the people. Then there's obviously a problem imo. Unless you're pro-totalitarian regime, then i can see you not having a problem with it

RT is different than Russian state media inside the country for Russian citizens

Same as China, their international media directed mostly at foreigners is different from their media for their country's citizens

You had russiagaters on RT, you don't have the same with corporate media like CNN

There's not a single valid reason in theory for why corporate mainstream media is better than state media

And in practice, state media is just a lot better, western or non-western, both in terms of levels of bias and actual quality

Case in point is German state media DW that put out a very good docuseries about the Iraq war recently

I was talking bout Chinese media in China btw. All I said is out there too. It's not like I came up with it myself, cause i can't read Chinese lol. It's what sinologists say about Chinese media IN China. Besides that, China scores really bad on free press. One of the worst countries in the world in that aspect. That's maybe looking from a very Western, 'orientalist' (lol) perspective, cause they don't look the same at mass media as Westerners do, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize that

I also never said that state run media is necessarily worse than corporate media btw. I said it's worse when that's the only source made available for people. When there are no different perspectives cause the government controls everything

The most prominent media outlets just as restrictive, just because it's on the orders of Jeff Bezos instead of the government (which is the only thing they look at) doesn't mean it's not restricted

You got some independent outlets but their reach is insignificant

Also that press freedom ranking bs is dumb anyway. A country like Cuba would probably also be really high on that list, but Cuba having resitrictions on the press when the world's biggest superpower is going as far as setting up social media platforms with the expressed purpose to overthrow the government is completely different than the press restrictions in a country like Saudi Arabia, or even China. It removes all context.
