now they say they want donbass plus southern ukraine

Many misconceptions about the Donbass battle here

-Russians would not settle solely for the territory of DNR and LNR, they want the entire region including the parts firmly under ukraine

-Russians pulled back from Kyiv to get more of the east further to this aim, and to pincer Ukrainian forces

-Ukrainians aren't just attacking to get donbass back, they're doing it to pre empt the pincer and push Russians back

If Russians were just satisfied with the DNR and LNR they could just move troops in, sit back and hold them

The entire rest of the donbass does not want to be under russia, why should the Ukrainians let them take it?

Note: mariupol is in Donbass and was never part of the DNR
