https://twitter.com/seewhychels/status/2043210463723548855Drake has always just been more talented than these guys. Smarter and doing better business.
Because the real artists and rappers knows Drake pen was always crazy. His talent.
Quintin thing was very much a fabricated thing and blown out of proportion. It was to devalue Drake. Try to stop him before they wouldnt be able to.
One has to look about the timing of all this with Drake having just signed a deal with Apple and whatnot, which likely people behind the scenes was privy to for months before it was happening. That deal was a big move from the Boy at the time and important for what happened afterwards as well, with streaming really taking over. Drake going from being one of the bigger artists, to arguably the biggest in a couple of years.
All of this, for years, has only been about business and influence. Power. Leverage.
Higher-ups, labels, the industry... they never wanted Drake to become this big that he could become bigger than them. More influential. More powerful. Etc.
It is not for nothing Jay-Z actually spit those bars on Light Up years before any of this as well. He obviously recognized Drakes talent and ambition early on, and where that might take him eventually. Having done a similar journey. Going through a lot of what Drake has gone through.
What happened in the last 10 years or so is Drake getting to the point where he was having too much leverage over everybody, both as an artist and behind scenes. That breeds resentment and is human nature, unfortunately.
Despite, for years... giving a lot of these people co-signs, features, interviews and showing love to many.
This all goes to show that the higher you climb. The more excellent you are. The target on your back only grows bigger as well.
Despite your intentions being good... someone is always gonna look with the side-eye and plot.

This is a lot of talk for stuff he can quell by just going on a good rap feature run

He doesn’t need to quell s***. Just gotta keep dominating the game while his haters keep crying

Guy is an idiot… if you make the gaps between releases too big, eventually people won’t care anymore

Artists can do that if their last release was phenomenal. Which we do not have a case of here
Seeing certain stans online talm bout "He's starving the industry just like he planned" as if niggas haven't been enjoying the f*** out of hip hop in the past 2 years since the beef is a pretty funny take.
Like I get that the argument pertains to Billboard charts and Spotify streams and what have you but it's so out of touch with hip hop rn.
Then again, I've seen these niggas repeating the "mid again" line with Rocky after he dropped a decent album lol.
It's fine for Drake to take his time with Iceman esp. if he's making sure it's a tough project but the whole "starving the industry" stuff that niggas like AK keep repeating is funny.

All they care about is Spotify numbers seemingly so it tracks

Everyone has been complaining that Hip Hop has been boring, no one is selling well especially in our genre, and the person allegedly on top has had a dry feature run which is what is supposed to keep excitement high for a year while they work on another album.
Just cause that's not YOUR experience doesn't mean that's not what the average person is saying and isn't what has been repeated for months and months now. The Iceman episodes were the last major viral event in hip hop, the genre isn't charting well right now, it just CLEARLY is not in the same place it was pre-beef.

While I agree with most of this… That asap rocky album came and went.

When streaming is the main way people engage with music every album is gonna come and go
Even swift isn’t immune. 92% drop first to second week.

Hold up now… while I agree with this too… that’s what’s being used to justify that drakes music isn’t hitting like it used to lol.

Yea if it's not purely rap and if he's not giving out verses to other lyricists, it'll be dismissed as pop or ghostwritten

I think it’s pretty clear his albums since 2018 have catered to streaming playlists over actual great projects to the detriment of his album output

Idk. I’ve always thought that the “decline” was always in the way streams were being calculated into sales. They’ve toyed with it virtually every year since scorpion dropped at some level and he’s never been one to bundle his albums. But all of his music has stood the test of time in terms of chart positions, etc. To me, thats the clear indicator that he’s not actually declining.
I mean, if any album fits the bill for the playlist narrative more than anything it’s more life. Poor sequencing, strange transitions (except for 4422 into gyalchester), etc.
