No he had not, Black Panther Soundtrack was in Feb. 2018. The pandemic happened two years later. You couldn’t really argue that he was on a “hiatus” until after the pandemic had already started.

Nobody was expecting a new solo Kendrick album in 2018 or 2019, whereas Drake had basically been dropping solo projects almost every single year from 2009 to 2023

But even if that was off the table

What I could bring up is that in Drake’s first 2 year “hiatus” he dropped a collab album with 6 solo songs, 2 #2 solo hits, like 6 other singles, and multiple streams that whatever you may think of them were artistic statements with some thought and production and music put into them.

You mention how the work Kendrick did in that gap was enough to keep him active and you’re mostly right for that one, but in later years he fully disappears and seems to value scarcity of his work and not want over exposure and is extremely curated

Which is a fine approach but it’s ironic when we start saying other people are scared to release.

but yea i count IYRTITL as a 2014 album tbh, it was being worked on all throughout 2014 and released in like February 2015, doesn’t really feel 2015 to me

and even for the years Drake didn’t release anything new (2012 and 2019, Care Package doesn’t count as new) that was because he was inescapable the entire year from what he’d released previously

(100 Gigs counts as an EP for 2024, he dropped 5 songs on streaming for it, he just deleted some of them)

so imo, Drake hasn’t even taken a break since the beef. he’s stuck to his annual release schedule the entire time

So you’re punishing Drake because we expect him to release? Lol

Feb 18 to March 20 was 2 years

We’re talking about two gaps of about two years. And you counting a soundtrack that Kendrick’s barely on, so if we even doing that, then the Party Drake collab album should count too, since there’s more Drake songs on there than there is Kendrick songs on black panther. So if you keep consistent logic instead of catering it based on who you want to be generous to, there’s not even a hiatus for drake by that logic
