Choosing Drake over the culture is wild
I mean he top 5 for me so I’m never knocking nobody for having him as your favorite rapper and even being a little biased but nobody comes before the culture that includes my favorite rappers that I have ahead of him (Jay, Ye, Nas, Kendrick)
What does that even mean...taking Drake over the culture?
There are a lot of artists I like and many of them are Hip hop artists but Idgaf about this culture debates and rules and whatever.
Either I like the music or I don't.

I dig man we just different ig Hip-Hop has always been about music AND culture and as annoying and out of touch a lot of cultural gatekeepers and talking heads are these days I still believe in there being some sort of cultural cohesion left in hip-hop
might be wishful thinking

Cool that there seem to be a lot of reissues merch, esp the CLB stuff
But nothing I really care for
If he dropped some new vinyl (not $$$4U) I would cop but

I love Drake but his direction for anything outside of the actual music is so bizarre and nonsensical. We’re literally in the midst of a rollout (?) and this partnership features absolutely nothing related to the new album. His success it literally in spite of his promotion a lot of the times in my opinion and this is far from a new issue
I think there’s an argument to be made that part of the reason for the mixed reception for his latter albums is because there is no real progressive build up to them. Even if you take an album like Scorpion that may not be rated as high nobody can say that the rollout and timeline at least wasn’t memorable. It’s just weird for an artist of his caliber

You're not wrong with your overall point but this store just opened. I believe the idea is to update it frequently with new stuff so just relax.
We still haven't gotten into the full swing of the album promotion yet imo.

This feels like complaining just to complain. This doesn’t take away from anything album or music related for me. I also am not really huge on rollouts to begin with. I’m not sure when fans started assigning so much value in how projects are presented to you. All I care about is the music.

I understand that. There could be more to it but I think that’s kind of my ethos of the issue is that there is so much room for clearer communication. I think I’m really looking at it where there were distinct album cycles historically for him and now it’s just all over the place. I’m just b****ing but it’s lowkey inexcusable to me whoever is overseeing his album rollouts does not do a good job to me at least

It’s just my opinion like you have yours. I don’t think I’m the first person to say they enjoy rollouts as they add to the experience of the album

Nothing wrong with your opinion, I guess the rollouts don’t do anything for me in terms of how I receive & enjoy an album. He could do an actual rollout or just post the link & it would be no different for me.
His management on how communicates the release has been terrible since like Scorpion. It is what it is at this point.
There doesn’t seem to be any actual music or management professionals around him which is why this s*** always happens. Some of it is probably because the label allowed it because the albums perform regardless. It’s just what it is at this point.

You're well within your right to feel how you feel and I definitely could do with a well-planned rollout but that's never affected the performance or eventual reception or Drake's music imo. Most of the projects he's dropped since 2015 have been surprise-released. CLB and For All the Dogs both had botched rollouts that ultimately didn't affect how the music performed.
I think well-planned rollouts would definitely benefit his future albums but that's neither here nor there with Drake. We've been listening to this guy for almost 20 years now. He knows true fans and passive listeners will only ever really tap into his music when he delivers a full project and he knows that's what people are really waiting for.

I also used to complain about s*** like this but I've stopped caring lmao. As long as the music remains fire, that's all I really care about at the end of the day.

Same. I don’t even care about an actual rollout. How about a date & sticking to the date? That seems easy & it still doesn’t happen.
Which album was released at like 5am? Was that FATD when they were finishing the album live on SiriusXM?

Well, to be fair, he hasn't given out a release date for Iceman yet (I've had October 24 as the tentative release date for months now so we'll see). The one thing I wish he'd stop doing is hyping up albums months before they drop. He really doesn't need to do any of that.

Hopefully he goes and puts Iceman merch here like Abel did with the HUT Amazon Store around the time the album was coming out
HOPEFULLY a vinyl too (wishful thinking here)

This merch store is definitely gearing up Iceman to have merch & physical bundles. I think he saw the performance of $$$4U and realized that you can’t just get by on streaming anymore. I called it when the album was officially announced, he wants this one to be huge. I think we get an extended rollout, merch + physicals, and a Spring 2026 release date

I understand your sentiment. I cared a bit about the culture when I was younger and listened to more underground artists.
Nowadays I think in artists not genres.

This could also be connected to the rollout, seems possible

Let's hope there's a plan for a lot of Iceman themed merch and other stuff to appear in the store.
Personally, I want the blue Iceman hoodie he's been rocking in the episodes. That'd be an instant cop for me.

That would be a welcome change in my opinion. I would feel less complain-y if that was clear though lol
