    Nah you real life slow

Working in the medical field as an assistant is to lead to an eventual CAREER where you earn a salary and $60k+ a year.

Severs never have the opportunity to advance to a career where you make $60k+ a year.

work at a higher scale restaurant to get possibily better tips

Yes, servers in America are paid a little above $2 per hour, whereas the minimum wage is $7.25 in some states at the absolute lowest.

McDonalds, Walmart, and Serving are all jobs that require little experience/no education/no special skills.

'Good money' is objective, and at a place like iHop/Waffle House/etc for example during a normal non-busy day they probably make $8-$12 an hour serving. That is not much more than minimum wage. At high class restaurants you see servers that make big money lots of days, but that is not where majority of servers work.

When someone is averaging $10 an hour, that $3 does make a notable difference. Much more if they have to deal with multiple s***ty customers back to back who have similar beliefs to you.

Busboys/hosts/etc who are not paid minimum wage also depend on those tips being split. So yes, you brought up why you sound like even more of a d***head -- various people in the restaurant depend on those few dollars, not just one person.

Anyone who doesn't get tips makes a normal hourly wage and thus they still get paid a decent wage regardless.

No sir. Good money is definitely a very subjective thing. I was happy when I was 16 making $9.50 if I was getting that same wage today I wouldn’t be so happy.

You skipped completely over my point where I said tipping is optional...or is it not? Personally, that is where I am rubbed wrong about the whole issue. If it were mandatory I wouldn’t trip, but it’s optional, and should be treated as such.

Also I’m not a s***ty customer. I treat each of my servers with the utmost respect, me not tipping does not take away from that fact.

As for my point about busboys etc, the waiters often skimp them out of the overall tip pot bra. I know you’re able to read, but I doubt how well. To add if I had the choice to tip anyone, it would be the cooks off rip.

About the immigrant workers, yes if given the opportunity I would tip them, so don’t assume “ihype” and no it’s not deflection, it’s me telling the truth and directing attention to people in worse situations who NEED more money and who ARE working for their survival

Lastly, why does it fall on me the customer to ensure that this employee makes a livable wage rather than the employer that pays them?

Poor people should enioy themselves but not at the expense of directly going out of their way of depriving another struggling person of income. How is that unreasonable to expect?

But you can’t explain why besides the tired old they’re making $x to survive trope, or the i do it you should too one.

If you don’t tip, that doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s an option, stop ignoring that. if a serial killer killed 30 ppl but was a great tipper is he/she going to heaven?

Severs are paid below minimum wage because it is expected they make tips. Thus if they do not earn tips, they are making below minimium wage. Tipping IS required for them to have a literal income they can actually live off of.

Tipping is 'completely optional' in the sense of jobs where the staff are normal hourly rates to begin with and thus they have an expected livable wage regardless of being tipped or not. That does not apply to serving.
