@Extraterrestrial never heard this Fleet album before so I’m in
One of my favorite albums
Review: Kakashi by Yasuki Shimizu

Some extremely, extremely cool sounds and melodies on this one. Progressive jazz/electronic fusion with hints of drone. Sometimes makes you feel uneasy almost like you are in the red room in Twin Peaks. Other times, in a calm serene forest. Not something I’d personally listen to on the regular but I can appreciate it for what it is. Could make for a decent study/background album. The fact that this album was made in 1982 is insane. An artist could find a lot to sample from this one tbh.
Favorite song: Utsukushiki Tennen
Runners up: Yume Dewa, Suiren
Rating: 7/10
It sounds like 50 is on auto pilot on a lot of these. He has good energy for a couple of the tracks like Animal Ambition, Pilot, or Twisted. He usually gets lost in the beat or is just too low energy to carry the simpler beats.
The features are mostly nothing special. Jadakiss has a good verse on Irregular Heartbeat. Kidd Kidd has two forgettable features, but a great verse on everytime I come around. Guordan Banks was bland on winners circle. Trey Songz sounds awful on Smoke.
Production isn't good on here. There's a weird mix of laid back beats and large dramatic radio friendly beats. Most of the laid back beats on here are bland and really forgettable. Most of the larger radio friendly beats are too busy and sound messy. Dr Dre ruined smoke with the grossest synth I think I've ever heard lol.
I don't think 50 knew which direction he wanted to go in for this album. If he would have picked one sound and stuck to it I think we could have got something less messy sounding and maybe it would have inspired him to actually try.
Overall: 4/10
Favorites: Irregular Heartbeat, Pilot,
Least favorites: Smoke, Hustler
this brian jackson & gil scott heron album isn't on spotify or youtube music

To be real I only ever checked this out bc I thought the album cover was cool hahah
But I’m glad you didn’t flat out hate it, it’s not one I revisit often either but it’s a vibe for what it is. Like you said it’s just waiting to be sampled.
You’re album something I should have a gym listen like I’ve been doing lately or a sit in the dark with some candles and pay attention vibe? @Extraterrestrial

More of the latter, definitely not a gym album

My second full Fleet Foxes album after the one released in 2021, I knew to expect something much much folk-ier in comparison to that album. What I found was an album full of deeply rich instrumentation, introspective lyrics and beautiful backing vocals among some very surprising musical moments. Specifically on the double tracks here but also the opening lyrics of the album (and the intro in general) hit me deep
So now I am older
Than my mother and father
When they had their daughter
Now what does that say about me?
My major cons are that this type of sound runs together for me when listening in one sitting, kinda makes some tracks background music unintentionally.
The album isn’t bad I saved 8/12 tracks but I’m not sure how often I’ll be revisiting it as this sound has a very specific vibe.
Highlights - Montezuma, Sim Sala Bim, Blue Spotted Tail and Grown Ocean
Rating: objectively prob an 8 but for me a 7-7.5/10. May go up or down depending on how often I revisit
